Here are a few things on the political calendar for next week in Houston/Harris County – note TWO Jerry Patterson sightings. Looks like he’s starting to get active in his run for Lt. Governor.

Clear Lake Area Republicans Meeting tonight!

Join us at tonight’s Clear Lake Area Republicans monthly meeting!

Please join the Clear Lake Area Republicans this coming, Tuesday, September 18, for our regular September meeting, as we discuss our local plan for the November election. Joining us to discuss the national, state and local mobilzation and gotv efforts will be Dr. Robin Armstrong, our state RNC Committeeman; a representative of Victory 2012; our new Harris County SD 11 Chair, Travis Bryan; representatives of the Bay Area Republican Women, San Jacinto Republican Women, and the Clear Lake Tea Party; and Yvonne Dewey, the Chair of the Brazoria County Republican Party. Please plan to come and learn how you can be involved in the final push toward election day to get our GOP candidates elected.

As always, our social time will begin with refreshments at 6:30 p.m., and our program will begin at 7:00 p.m. We meet in the Second floor courtroom of the Harris County Courthouse Annex at 16603 Buccaneer in Clear Lake, between and behind the intersections of Diana and Bay Area Boulevard, and El Camino and Bay Area Boulevard (behind the Freeman Library).

San Jacinto Republican Women open Pasadena Victory 2012 office

As Harris County Judge Ed Emmett noted in his remarks yesterday, Southeast Harris County has become a hotbed of Republican activism. A great example of this activism is the San Jacinto Republican Women’s Club and their growth the past couple of years. There was a great turnout last night as the SJRW opened their Victory 2012 office on Fairmont Parkway in Pasadena.

Judge Emmett highlighted the campaigns of David Pineda and Robert Talton. On Pineda, Emmett reflected on his own first run for state rep and the similarities – he was also 28 years old, his campaign also centered on knocking on doors (in Emmett’s case, 19,404, not that anyone counted), and he was also given no chance to win. Well, win he did, and with the help of volunteers at the SJRW phone bank, so will David Pineda.

I was happy to see the Judge introduce Robert Talton and discuss how important that race is to all Harris County citizens. As I have said, Talton fears no one and will really help in the effort to clean up Harris County government. I, along with the King Street Patriots, tried very hard to set up a debate between Mr. Talton and the current County Attorney, Vince Ryan. Ryan’s campaign would have no part of it – apparently, they don’t want citizens to see the stark contrasts between the two men. There are a lot of important races on the ballot but if you haven’t found a candidate to work for, please contact Mr. Talton’s office and volunteer and donate.

Judge Emmett’s parting words were about the importance of voting all the way down the ballot to be certain that all Republican candidates win. He didn’t mention it but the best way to do this is to vote straight Republican. I know that some of you don’t like straight ticket voting but it is the single best way for Republicans to win. Estimates are that this year’s straight ticket percentage will be around 70{997ab4c1e65fa660c64e6dfea23d436a73c89d6254ad3ae72f887cf583448986} – we need Republican voters to win that battle. Look, if you have a cousin or brother-in-law that you just have to vote for and they are Democratic, no problem – vote the straight R ticket at the top of the ballot, then scroll to Cousin Vinny’s name and vote for him. It isn’t difficult and will insure that down ballot Republicans win their races.

It is awesome to see the enthusiasm so high 50 days out – let’s keep it going and win in November!

Bay Area Republican Women open Clear Lake headquarters

Awesome turnout today for the grand opening of the Bay Area Republican Women’s election headquarters! The place was packed with candidates and motivated Republicans ready to win in November! Check out a few photos:

BARW’s Lillian Norman Keeney took me on a tour of the office and it looks like once again, this group will be a huge player in the November election. They have two phone bank rooms, two offices for candidates to use as necessary, a large conference room for strategy and training sessions, a full kitchen (hey, a guy has to eat!), and of course the main office area where citizens can come and pick up campaign materials for their favorite candidates.

Speaking of training, Republican activist Paul Simpson was there and I happened to overhear him talking to Lillian about holding training sessions in the office. How cool, and necessary, is that? As details emerge, I’ll share them with you and most likely attend because I need training more than most!

In a show of the increasing Republican strength in SE Harris County, there will be two headquarters in the area. The second one has its grand opening Monday night and is sponsored by the San Jacinto Republican Women’s club. Click here for all the details. This office will also serve as the SE Harris County headquarters for Victory 2012 and will feature Harris County Judge Ed Emmett as the speaker at the grand opening.

SD-11 Candidate forum tonight!

The San Jacinto Republican Women are hosting a forum for the candidates vying to replace Sen. Mike Jackson in the Texas State Senate. The forum will be held at the Cleveland-Ripley Neighborhood Center located at 720 Fairmont Parkway in Pasadena. It starts at 6:00 pm and ends around 8:00 pm.  Click here for a map.

Daniel McCool

Daniel McCool, is a graduate of Deer Park High School, U.S. Army Veteran and is beginning his twenty-second year as a Deputy Sheriff with Harris County.   Daniel is a leader who is not afraid of challenges or hard work.  Throughout his professional career Daniel has received top honors for his achievements.  He has been honored as Officer of the Year multiple times by various groups, nominated for a 100 CLUB lifesaving award, represented his Army Unit as Soldier of the Year, and recognized with many other awards for his commitment to making our lives better and safer.

Daniel has actively worked behind the scenes for various campaigns and causes for more than twenty-five years.  He knows his grassroots and hard work makes a difference in our community. Issues Daniel stands strongest on are fiscally conservative government, private property rights, border security, individual liberty, personal responsibilities and sustained economic development.  Daniel has garnered support from precinct chairs, citizen activists, Tea Party groups, Apostle Claver and RagingElephants.com. Even Houston Radio Talk Show Host Michael Berry gave a rare endorsement and admits he is writing a Chapter in his book about Daniel and his citizen activism.

This is Daniel McCool’s first attempt at an elected public office, although he serves as the State Treasurer for the Texas Crime Prevention Association, which is a statewide, multi-region non-profit organization which educates citizens, businesses and the 75,000 Texas law enforcement officers.  Additionally, Daniel is the Treasurer for the Clear Lake Area Republicans, Founder of the Caucasian Law Enforcement Association and has served on the Board of Directors for a number of charity and civic groups.

Daniel is married to Lisa McCool, who is also a Deputy Sheriff; she investigates home invasions and residential burglaries in North Harris County.  Daniel and Lisa have two children, Jacob (7) and Abigail (4) and are long-time Pasadena residents.

Dave Norman graduated from Clear Lake High School and attended SFA and Rice Universities earning a B.S in Biology and a Minor in Military Science. Dave was commissioned as a Regular Army Officer, Aviation Branch in 1984 and served both Active Duty and Reserve Component until joining the retired Reserve in 2008. Dave rose to the rank of Major

Dave is the principal of Norman Insurance an Agency started by his mother, Lilian Norman Kenney, in 1972.

He and his bride of 27 years, Bonnie, reside in Seabrook and have two children: Emily, a junior at Clear Falls High School, and Anne, a junior at the University of Texas at Austin.

REP. LARRY TAYLOR (R – FRIENDSWOOD)

Rep. Larry Taylor is a lifelong Texan, born in southeast Texas and raised in Friendswood. He attended Baylor University where he received his BBA in 1982. Rep. Taylor and his wife Kerri, have three beautiful children: Trudy, Carly and Jake. He owns Truman Taylor Insurance Agency in Friendswood, an independent agency started by his father over 50 years ago.  Rep. Taylor is frequently recognized as a legislative champion for fiscal responsibility and conservative representation.  Taylor has recently been named a “Taxpayer Advocate” by Texans for Fiscal Responsibility, a “Champion of Free Enterprise” by the Texas Association of Business, and a “Courageous Conservative” by the Texas Conservative Coalition.  Rep. Taylor serves as the Chairman of the House Elections Committee, and member of the House Insurance Committee, and House Select Committee on Voter Identification and Voter Fraud.  In 2011, Rep. Taylor was re-elected unanimously by his colleagues to serve a second term as Chairman of the House Republican Caucus.  Rep. Taylor was elected in 2002 by District 24 in Galveston County and is serving his fifth term in the Texas House of Representatives as a member of the 82nd Legislature. Rep. Taylor is currently a candidate for Texas State Senate District 11.
