Long-time readers know that I can’t stand the hate that Terry Lowry brings into the Republican Party (see here) but I do give him credit for being a capable interviewer. He has Craig James on his program today talking about his endorsement of David Dewhurst for Senate.
Terry Lowry interviews Craig James on why he endorsed David Dewhurst.
[audio:http://www.terrylowry.com/audio/120620CraigJames2.mp3]Craig made his endorsement based upon four criteria:
- Texas is the role model for the US. Gov. Perry and Lt. Gov. Dewhurst deserve recognition for having governed the state with conservative principles. The proof is in the pudding – David Dewhurst doesn’t just talk about it, he has done it.
- Business experience – too many lawyers in the Senate already. Nothing wrong with lawyers but we don’t need another lawyer up there, we need someone with business experience.
- Outside money coming into Texas to influence the race. Ted Cruz is supported by inside the Beltway PACs and lobbyists. Texans should decide this race.
- Humble upbringing. Like Craig, David Dewhurst was greatly influenced by his mother and was raised in humble surroundings. He knows what it is like to live on mayonnaise only sandwiches. David Dewhurst has lived the American dream, gone from rags to riches, has served his country in the military, and is now giving back and serving the people.
Unfortunately for Craig, he entered the race too late to be a major factor. But each time I saw him at a small, grassroots event, he really connected with the people in attendance. There are a lot of naysayers out there about him but I’d be willing to bet that very few of them ever attended one of those grassroots events to watch him and get a true picture of his viability. He’ll be back.
But for now, it is clear in listening to him that he is a big supporter of David Dewhurst. And his reasoning makes perfect sense.
