If you haven’t heard Dan’s radio commercial, here you go:

How about that, me promoting Mr. Woodfill? Heh. Okay, let’s look at what Sen. Patrick touts as Mr. Woodfill’s qualities.
Jared Woodfill stood with Dan and fought the Blocker Bill
Ah, the blocker bill. You know, the practice in the Texas Senate that results in a super-majority being required to pass a bill. Whether you are for this practice or against it, let me ask you something: is it in place today? Or did Sen. Patrick and Jared Woodfill eliminate it?
Jared Woodfill fought with Dan to pass Voter ID
Everyone knows what this bill would do. And it is a great idea, should be implemented, would have been implemented if Rep. Joe Strauss wasn’t Speaker of the House. Would Strauss have been Speaker if Hubert Vo had not defeated Talmadge Heflin in 2004, under Mr. Woodfill’s watch? Hmm? Oh, one more thing: do we have a Voter ID requirement today? Did Sen. Patrick and Jared Woodfill eliminate it?
Jared Woodfill fought with Dan when traditional marriage was under attack
Got me on that one. I don’t recall that big fight in Texas. Maybe Sen. Patrick is talking about the 2005 amendment (Prop 2)? If so, wasn’t that the opposite fight? Not an attack on traditional marriage but an attack on non-traditional marriages? Dan wasn’t a Senator at the time, so I have no idea. Like I said, got me on that one.
Jared Woodfill went to Austin with Dan and fought for lower appraisal caps
Really? I didn’t know that. I wasn’t able to make the trip but was there to see the bus off. Don’t recall seeing Jared but since I wasn’t on the bus, I don’t know. Ask yourself this: do we have lower appraisal caps today? A signature issue for Sen. Patrick and yet CLOUT is no more and Paul Bettencourt decided to leave office and make a buck off of it.
Jared Woodfill led three county wide sweeps
It is true that Mr. Woodfill was in charge in 2002, 2004, and 2006, when Republicans managed to keep their seats in Harris County. But as I first pointed out in this post, the party peaked in 2002, maintained in 2004, and started its pitiful decline in 2006. And we all know what happened in 2008. Here is the chart again:
Dan quotes Gov. Perry
And then Dan quotes Gov. Rick Perry (why would he weigh in on this race?) as saying he was proud that Jared registered 100k new voters. Um, hmm. How did that work out in 2008? Raising a record $7 million? Well, that was over an eight year period and last year, they ran out of money, couldn’t pay their employees, and had to close the office for a few days. That is a fact.
Fighting isn’t the same as winning
You know, it is one thing to “fight” for hot button issues and get nothing done about them when you are a Senator in a safe Republican district. It is quite another thing if you are the leader of the largest red county in the country – fighting and losing is not a good thing. How many losses will it take to get Dan’s attention? Think how much more effective Dan would be if he had a solid organization county-wide to help him? He could continue to bloviate, the party could do the heavy lifting, and conservative principles would actually move forward!
Think about it. What would happen if Sarah Davis wins in HD-134? Fernando Herrera in HD-148? Jack O’Connor or Dianne Williams in HD-149? Wouldn’t having a strong Harris County presence in the House help Dan in the Senate? Of course it would.
I think that one of Jared’s minions, Bill Kneer (affectionately known in these parts as frac) put it best:
Jared has articulated his conservative principles in numerous periodicals and television shows, including: Houston Chronicle, New York Times, Fox News, Dallas Morning News, Austin American-Statesman, KSEV Radio, KTRH Radio, Los Angeles Times, Local stations channel 2, 8, 11, 13, 26 and 39. He has also appeared on the O’Reilly Factor.
That is exactly what Jared is best at. Dan too for that matter. Speaking, getting in front of the media, etc. Not building an organization that is capable of supporting the party. He just doesn’t have those skills.
A better choice for a winning future
But you know who does? Ed Hubbard. Yup, he has the ability to build an effective organization. In fact, he’s written about it extensively over the past year and a half. Several county organizations have adopted his plan already. Jared has attempted to copy many parts of it but he doesn’t have the ability to follow through on the plan – it really does take a hands on, nuts and bolts type of person to get it done.
Listen to an endorsement of Ed from someone that is a hands on type:
