Who do you know among Republican campaign donors that (1) supports only conservatives and (2) has the ability to change his mind, consider earlier donations a sunk cost, and write a check for $20,000? There aren’t many of them, I’ll tell you that much.
First off, though, why would someone do that? After all, Jared is a conservative, right? Yes, as a matter of fact, on most issues, he is. But there is one, a very, very big one, that he is not. What is that issue?
Tort reform.
That’s right, tort reform. When I first started reporting on Mr. Woodfill’s choice to sit on his “Health Care Reform Panel”, it seemed at times that I was the only one that cared that he put a plantiff’s trial lawyer on the panel. A guy that claimed that the only way to keep doctors in check was to sue them. In fact, I got a lot of grief over that report. No way, people said. But it was true. Jared Woodfill put a plaintiff’s lawyer on a health care reform panel and that guy was openly against tort reform
Finally, someone in a position to do something about it noticed. Finally. That first report was in September of last year. Even after that report, Jared Woodfill kept the plaintiff’s lawyer on the panel. Even after that report, this donor gave Mr. Woodfill $10,000, consisting of two $5,000 donations. One as recent as March 22nd. But someone, somewhere, finally convinced him to talk to Ed Hubbard. And that was all it took.
It could be that a jury that awarded a student from TSU $8.2 million in “actual” damages got his attention but I’m sticking with my story!
Alright, enough of the mystery. Bob Perry, the most prolific financial supporter of true conservatives in the country, had to tell Jared that he was changing teams.
