He didn’t do it by much but he did it:
Ed Hubbard: $ 15,782
Jared Woodfill: $ 15,550
Even more important, Mr. Hubbard raised money from FOUR TIMES as many donors.

UPDATE: 4/6/10 5:15 pm
I received the following email this afternoon:
As one with interest but no dog in the hunt, I found your posting today about the HCRP Chair race TEC filings informative, albeit a bit breathless (“HCRP Shock”). But, in fairness, should you disclose that your own contribution put Hubbard over Woodfill? Just sayin’ . . .
In point of fact, I disclosed the fact that I made a financial contribution to Mr. Hubbard on 3/16 – the first time that I had talked about this race after the primary election:
This is the first time I’ve discussed the HCRP Chair race since the primary but I’ll address it more as early voting gets closer. During the primary election, I stayed neutral between Ed, Paul Simpson and Don Large. Now that there is a runoff, my wife and I decided to make a small financial contribution Ed’s campaign. If that bothers you or you think it taints my coverage of this race, so be it. Jared is a very nice man and I’ve found him to be a man of personal integrity but I think that he doesn’t have the skills necessary to lead the party forward at this time.
I’ll stick with that line – if that bothers you, so be it. What I didn’t say was that prior to making my contribution, I contacted both Jared and Paul Simpson, the other serious contender in the race and informed them of my intention to contribute. I sent this to Mr. Simpson on 3/5:
Hey, Paul,
I hope you are resting from the grueling campaign, I know you worked very hard.
As I told you several times, I worked very hard not to show any favoritism during the campaign. I think I succeeded but at least I know I tried.
Now that there is a runoff, I’m going to be trying to get Ed elected. And that includes a small financial donation that I’m sure people will use to say “see, he was for Ed all along”. That isn’t true, if you had won, I would have given the same small amount to you and worked just as hard to get you elected because I really do believe that the change must start with Jared.
And because I covered this so closely for a year now, I know that Jared isn’t the only problem. I just think he doesn’t have the skill set needed to accomplish the necessary changes, although he certainly has plenty of other skills.
I’m sure Jared and Ed are both trying to lure you to their side. I certainly hope you go with Ed but even if you don’t, I know that your decision will be made on principle and no one will be able to buy your vote. Like I said, I covered this thing closely enough to get to know the players. 😉
Good luck and I hope we meet again down the trail.
Dave
For those of you technically challenged, if you click on Ed Hubbard’s name above and open his campaign finance report, you will see, at the bottom of page 6, that I made a $500 contribution to Mr. Hubbard’s campaign on March 6, 2010. After the primary and long before my contribution would have “put Hubbard over Woodfill”.
So once again, if that bothers you, then it bothers you. I care far more about Republicans in Harris County than I do about your opinion of me. I have been fair, open, completely transparent about my thoughts for the last year on Mr. Woodfill’s ability, or lack thereof, to lead the HCRP in the future. He cannot do it.
I also extend to you the challenge that I always do: if you find anything that I write to be factually incorrect, tell me and I will publicly apologize and set the record straight.
As for the “albeit a bit breathless (“HCRP Shock”)” line, I will fully admit to being 100{997ab4c1e65fa660c64e6dfea23d436a73c89d6254ad3ae72f887cf583448986} pleased with Ed’s numbers. The person that emailed me this knows full well that Paul Simpson was able to raise more money than Ed and Jared during the crucial 30 days before the primary. Which naturally led some to conclude that Ed could not raise money. So pardon me for being relieved to see that not only can he raise money, but he can raise more of it and do it from a base of contributors FOUR TIMES as large as Mr. Woodfill’s.
Why don’t you do as I did? Donate today to Ed Hubbard’s campaign – real change comes at a price.
