Why did Texas Republican and Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector Mike Sullivan “bloglunch” with Death Threat Democrat John Cobarruvias?
In the aftermath of the December 2012 shootings in Newtown, CT, Big Jolly Politics introduced you to Texas State Democratic Executive Committee member John Cobarruvias who advocated the murder of NRA President David Keene. John’s death threats were reported on conservative blog sites such as Rhymes With Right, Michelle Malkin, PJ Media, and Breitbart, in addition to the Michael Berry and Sean Hannity radio shows.
In an act of cowardice John subsequently deleted his tweet, but later described the NRA as a “domestic terrorist organization”,
John’s history includes disrespecting Texas Attorney General Abbott back in March 2010 when he called for the AG to “get off his ass and take a stand” and issuing a 2011 threat to “billy club” Texas State Representative Debbie Riddle for her stance on requiring photo ID at the polls.
So I was quite surprised to learn Texas Republican and Harris County Tax Assessor- Collector Mike Sullivan “bloglunched” with John Cobarruvias and Scrambled Brains & Lobotomized Eggs.
Coby wrote he “walked away with a very positive feeling about Sullivan’s office“:
“I have to admit, I walked away with a very positive feeling about Sullivan’s office especially the attitude towards registering voters. The days of lawsuits and controversy concerning the voting rolls, voter intimidation, and other voter issues seems to have ended. His attitude is more of “how can my office help to register voters” instead of working to suppress the vote. Sullivan mentioned that 3 inherited lawsuits due to the policies of his predecessors, Leo Vasquez, and Don Sumners, have been resolved.”
Why did Sullivan meet with this guy considering Coby’s previous threats of violence against other Texas Republicans?
Rhymes W. Right says
I'm curious — what CONSERVATIVE bloggers were invited to this lunch session? Or is Sullivan only interested in reaching out to the violent hatemongers and bigots of the Left?
Sally Belladonna Baggins Stricklett says
I think Sullivan is either gullible or stupid. I don't know him. Is he one of those needy Republicans who needs to be liked by Democrats? For Democrats, the game is always being played. For Republicans, they stay played.
Don Hooper says
When Sullivan was on council and never lifted a finger to help any conservative cause his actions went unnoticed. Now that he is an elected Republican public official Mike needs to learn there is greater scrutiny and Blakemore BS will be held to the most scrutiny.
Thank you, Yvonne!
WRM says
City council members aren’t supposed to be helping any conservative causes, they are supposed to be sure the City runs smoothly. And, the tax assessor role ought to be as non-partisan as possible. Collecting taxes efficiently and registering voters efficiently and in accordance with the law is neither conservative or liberal.
Brains and Eggs says
Yvonne: As I have pointed out to BJ, eggs are scrambled; brains are lobotomized. If y'all keep making the same mistake after you have been corrected, people might begin to think you're not teachable.
As to your question: I got the impression that Sullivan was being non-partisan about the discharge of electoral responsibility. I'm impressed by that even if I don't agree with his politics.
As for Greg's question, Justin Concepcion is allegedly working on a sit-down with your side. You might ask him when (and if you'll be included).
Don Hooper says
WRM,
Mike succeeded in not helping conservatives and was only a facilitator for liberals and now the City of Houston is billions of dollars in debt.
Sally, he is both.

Mike’s July 15th CFR is interesting. Mike’s math of raising $40,900, spending $21,965 and maintaining $12,569 doesn’t match my end balance of $18, 935.
