From Noel Freeman, President of the Houston GLBT Political Caucus:
The Caucus is holding its municipal, HISD, and HCCS endorsement meeting on Saturday, August 10th at 1:00 PM at St. Stephen’s Church Pecore Hall (1800 Sul Ross). We will be providing space for judicial candidates to seek petition signatures from attendees of our meeting. The meeting is typically attended by 150-200 people. Most probably identify as Democratic, but we have 25-30{997ab4c1e65fa660c64e6dfea23d436a73c89d6254ad3ae72f887cf583448986} of our membership who identify as Republican, Libertarian, or generally conservative.
We will have a table for Democrats and a table for Republicans. Because we will have candidates speaking who are under consideration for endorsement, we will not be able to recognize judicial candidates by name, but I will announce that they have a table and are seeking signatures. I always encourage our members to sign judicial petitions.
This is a good opportunity for judicial candidates to fill their petitions to be on the ballot in lieu of paying the filing fee. No sense wasting money. Plus, you’ll have a chance to meet some voters and try to get them on your side!
It will also be a good opportunity for those of us that are not running to meet candidates for the municipal, HISD, and HCCS races. If you are like me, you don’t get many chances to meet these candidates and an informed voter is a better voter!
