Log Cabin Republicans of Houston Full Endorsement List
Houston, TX, 8/21/15
The Log Cabin Republicans of Houston is proud to announce that it has finalized its endorsements for the 2015 Houston municipal cycle. The Log Cabin Republican organization has weighed a lot of issues and many candidates who have sought our endorsements. The process involved the full membership of the organization and carefully considered the looming issues before our city. Issues we considered included the fiscal deficit that our city faces, pension reform, TIRZ, economic development, social inclusivity, HERO, infrastructure, and issues of liberty. No one issue served as a litmus test and we pulled from the broad spectrum of views within our group to find consensus on the best candidates to lead our city for the next term. We are grateful to all candidates who sought our endorsement and look forward to working with whoever ultimately wins to help solve our cities looming issues.

No real surprises that I see other than no endorsement in At Large 4. In that race, Jonathan Hansen has stood out for his position papers, one of which I have highlighted. Knowing several of the members of the LCRH, and being a member, I’m surprised that they didn’t endorse him. Oh well, shows what I know.
As for the races as a whole, Burt Levine recapped the all important fundraising numbers in this report in Houston Style Magazine: Houston Council Campaigns Cite Huge Cash-On-Hand. His note about At Large 4 is interesting:
C.O. Bradford is term limited from another run for At Large 4. Amanda Edwards, with Emory and Harvard Law Degrees, hopes to fill the At Large 4 seat. She cited $165, 958.66 raised with $118,185.79 C-O-H. She faces Laurie Robinson, MBA. Robinson, a business owner and leaders in the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Houston Partnership and the NAACP cited $43,043 raised and $26,719.59 C-O-H. Also in the race are Matt Murphy, Roy Morales and Jonathan Hansen declaring little in fundraising.
Matt Murphy is a flip flopper who will say one thing to one group and another to a different group. I doubt his endorsement by the Kingwood Tea Party is going to mean anything (remember, they also endorsed newly minted “conservative” Bill King). Believe it or not, I can see Roy Morales slipping into a runoff in this one running on name recognition alone and then pulling off a win in the runoff. How bizarre would that be?
We’ll start paying closer attention to these races now that the summer is almost over.
UPDATE:
Mr. Murphy contacted me and wanted you to see his response to the “flip flopper” allegation. Always willing to show the other side.
