It’s that time again. Primary time. The most active time every two years for Republican candidates and Republicans. This will be a very, very short primary season. As I write this, January 4th, the primary is less than 8 weeks away on March 1st. Unfortunately Stan Stanart, the Harris County Clerk, does not have the ballot information up on HarrisVotes.com yet. That is unfortunate, the candidates have been in place since December 14th. Oh well.
We know that there are a huge number of candidates that have filed. The Harris County specific candidates for the Republican primary are listed on the Harris County Republican Party website. Click here to view.
The only way to pick a good candidate is to meet them and ask your own questions about your most important issues. Please, whatever you do, do not walk into the polls with a “Linkletter” or any other list of candidates. Doing so gets you the worst government possible. Just ask George Scott.
If you want to meet a candidate, you have to go to one of the many, many meetings that will be held in Harris County in the next few weeks. Here are a couple that I recommend for this week:
Tuesday, January 5th, noon: Greater Houston Pachyderm Club – this club will have two candidates for the 14th Court of Appeals (Place 2), Kevin Jewell and Bud Wiesedeppe. I do not know Mr. Jewell but I know Bud very well and he is a fantastic candidate. This club meets at Tony’s on Richmond. Click here for more information.
Thursday, January 7th, noon: Downtown Houston Pachyderm Club – the candidates appearing will be: Don Sumners for Harris County Tax Assessor, Phil Gommels for Judge of 178th Criminal District Court, Daniel Vela for Harris County Constable Precinct 2, Xavier Alfaro for Judge of 178th Criminal District Court, and, Ted Heap for Harris County Constable Precinct 5. This club meets at the Spaghetti Warehouse on Commerce in downtown Houston. Click here for more information.
If you know of any meetings worth attending, please, please let me know! I used to be able to use the Harris County Republican Party Calendar for this stuff but they don’t have many listings these days. I’m not sure what’s up with that, maybe it is part of HCRP Chair Paul Simpson’s plan to be inbred and dismiss the grassroots. Who knows? In any case, please let me know!
See you at one or both of these meetings.
