Heh, for those of us in Harris County, we’ve been dealing with this strange man for years. Now people around the state are getting a glimpse at one of the men that used to run the Harris County Republican Party. Here is an email from him, reprinted in full for your reading pleasure:
Republican Leadership Fails to Defend Biblical Marriage Huge Opportunity Squandered May 29, 2015 Dear Fellow Conservatives, The reason the Republican leadership in the House and Senate did not pass a law prohibiting the issuance of homosexual marriage licenses is because they chose not to bring it up for a vote. There was overwhelming support by the Republican state legislators for this legislation. In the House alone 93 out of 98 Republican state representatives coauthored HB 4105, the Preservation of State Sovereignty and Marriage Act. Representative Cecil Bell, Jr., who authored this bill in the House, led a valiant effort to defend Texas’ State Sovereignty over marriage, but was thwarted by Speaker Joe Straus and his lieutenant, Rep. Byron Cook, Chairman of the House State Affairs Committee. Speaker Straus and Rep. Cook caved in to the homosexual lobby and the pro-homosexual liberal democrats, and delayed HB 4105 in committee which prevented it from being voted on in a timely fashion by the House. Lt. Governor Dan Patrick and his lieutenant, Senator Joan Huffman, refused even to give a hearing in the Senate State Affairs Committee on SB 673, the senate companion bill to HB 4105, the Preservation of State Sovereignty and Marriage Act. Governor Abbott never weighed in on HB 4105, the Preservation of State Sovereignty and Marriage Act. The following excerpts from The Texas Observerexplains the failure and refusal by the Republican leadership to defend the Texas Marriage Amendment. The Republican leadership was more concerned about pleasing the pro-homosexual Texas Association of Business (T.A.B.) than the grassroots conservatives who elected them to office. Money trumps morals! At the 11th hour, as time was running out on the clock, the Republicans in the Texas House were given a letter of memorandum to sign which supported the traditional marriage. The Republicans in the Senate also passed and signed a resolution supporting traditional marriage. Neither the memorandum nor resolution have any power of law or any real significance. These documents were passed and signed to give cover to the Republican leadership that failed to pass legislation which would have thrown up roadblocks to prevent homosexual marriages in Texas. A bill preserving Biblical marriage in Texas should have been passed by the Texas Legislature months ago. The legislature has passed hundreds of other bills, but the Republican leaders chose not to pass legislation that would defend the Texas Marriage Amendment against the usurpation of our state sovereignty by the federal courts. Their lack of action and cowardice is inexcusable. The homosexuals are intent on destroying Biblical marriage and throwing our state and nation into sexual and moral anarchy. They are fascists who want to force the acceptance and normalization of the homosexual lifestyle, the practice of sodomy, upon individuals, families, churches, schools and businesses. They want the government to mandate that homosexual conduct be taught to school children starting in kindergarten. The teachers will encourage the children to experiment with homosexual activity so that they can more easily be recruited into the homosexual lifestyle. The homosexuals and their pro-homosexual allies in the media are demonizing Christians and intend to criminalize Biblical Christianity. “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness.” (Isaiah 5:20) We must stand and fight for the truth of God’s Word and prevent this from happening in Texas. A poll taken by Baselice & Associates prior to last November’s general election indicates that Texans still overwhelming support, by a 2:1, margin the Texas Marriage Amendment of the Texas Constitution, Article 1, Section 32, which provides that: “Marriage in this state shall consist only of the union of one man and one woman.” A huge opportunity was lost by the Republicans to defend Biblical marriage during this Texas legislative session. The blame for this failure rests squarely on the shoulders of the Republican leadership. We must now call upon Governor Abbott to call a Special Session of the Texas Legislature immediately to pass legislation to prevent homosexual marriage in Texas and legislation that will protect Religious Freedom. Contact Governor Greg Abbott and tell him that you want him to call a Special Session of the Texas Legislature to prevent the issuing of marriage licenses to homosexuals. The Texas Observer With Anti-Gay Marriage Resolution, Dan Patrick Accepts Defeat by Christopher Hooks Published on Thursday, May 28, 2015, at 3:59 CST Did you know that Lt. Governor Dan Patrick, and Senate Republicans, oppose gay marriage? If you didn’t know before, you do now. There’s proof: It’s called Senate Resolution 1028, offered by state Sen. Kelly Hancock. Here’s part of it: WHEREAS, Traditional marriage is the bedrock institution RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th The resolution was written, introduced and passed last night, circumventing the normal procedure for bringing up bills and resolutions. It’s signed by every GOP senator, and Patrick too. The resolution has no significance and no effect—it carries exactly as much weight as Senate Resolution 997, recognizing March 26, 2015 as John Wayne Day. The House GOP caucus did the same thing a few weeks ago after House Bill 4105 died, except theirs was only a letter. … In last night’s “debate” over the resolution, Lucio, a passionate pro-life Catholic, rose to give a personal speech about his own convictions. “From our bibles, we learn of one man and one woman,” he said. “For me, nothing is more sacred than our biblical teachings.” The institution of marriage came from Jesus himself, and cheapening it was sacrilege. “By now, everybody knows how this senator from the Rio Grande Valley feels,” he told the chamber. … Senators drafted last Wednesday night’s resolution on the fly. While it was being debated, the text of the resolution hadn’t even been uploaded to the Capitol website. The resolution was approved quickly. The thin document is the only real say-so the Legislature will have on the issue before the U.S. Supreme Court decision this summer. It’s a comprehensive flop for the forces who oppose gay marriage. Nonetheless, Patrick told the Senate to buck up. They “should be proud,” he said. “The House decided not to have this debate.” That’s a dig at Speaker Joe Straus, of course. But since Patrick couldn’t get anything consequential out of his own chamber either, who is he pointing fingers at? ************************************************************************************************** Texas failed to lead the nation in defense of Biblical marriage. How tragic! This was so avoidable! “Who will stand up for me against evildoers? Who will take his stand for me against those who do wickedness?” (Psalm 94:16) My wife and I have been married for 46 years, have 8 children and 22 grandchildren. They are the reason that I am fighting this evil attempt by those who practice homosexuality to profane and desecrate God’s Biblical standard for marriage and family. I have pledged my life, my wealth and my honor to God to defend Biblical marriage and family. Will you join me in making this pledge? Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people.” (Proverbs 14:34) All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men and women to do nothing! Christians, we must continue to defend Biblical marriage! Contact Governor Greg Abbott and tell him you want him to call a Special Session of the Texas Legislature to prevent the issuing of marriage licenses to homosexuals. Governor Abbott may be contacted at: [email protected]. Also copy his Chief of Staff, Daniel Hodge, at [email protected]. Through God’s power, I am confident that we shall be victorious. Forward this to your distribution list now. Thanking you for having the courage of your Christian convictions, I remain, as always, Sincerely yours for Constitutional liberties and the Biblical principles upon which they are based, Steven F. Hotze, M.D. |
Kinda ironic that he quotes one of the most liberal reporters at one of the most liberal media outlets in the state. I wonder if Dr. Hotze would sit down for an interview with Hooks? That would be some funny reading.
But let’s get real for a minute. The institution of marriage is not in trouble because a couple of dudes or dudettes want to show their love for each other. The institution of marriage is in deep, deep trouble because people that call themselves Christians do not respect it. If they did, we wouldn’t see the high rates of divorce that we have in this state and country. And the institution of marriage is also in trouble because of people like Dr. Hotze, who want the government to take the place of Almighty God.
The best thing that could happen to the institution of marriage would be for the government to get completely out of the business and leave it up to the Church.
