Houston area Rep. John Culberson (R-7) has fired the first shot against President Obama’s ill advised executive actions regarding gun control. From The Hill’s report Republican eyes DOJ budget to block Obama gun orders:
A powerful House Republican is threatening to block President Obama’s executive order on guns by defunding the Department of Justice (DOJ).
In a letter to Attorney General Loretta Lynch, Rep. John Culberson (R-Texas), chairman of the Appropriations subcommittee that oversees the Justice Department, warned against enforcing the new gun restrictions.
“The next twelve months will be an especially dangerous time for Americans who treasure our Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms,” Culberson said.

That’s the way to get the administration’s attention. And C0ngress should have used the power of the purse to reign in this President years ago. Better late than never.
Here is the complete letter:
Rep. John Culberson letter to AG Lynch about the Second Amendment
Let’s hope Culberson follows through on his threat if the Department of Justice decides to follow through with the President’s actions. Growing the federal government will not stop a single act of gun violence.
And just for the record, gun violence is down and continues to drop. Hat tip to reader Blair McClure for pointing me to this Pew Research Center report on gun violence, Gun Homicide Rate Down 49{997ab4c1e65fa660c64e6dfea23d436a73c89d6254ad3ae72f887cf583448986} Since 1993 Peak; Public Unaware. As the report points out, even though the rate of gun violence has dropped significantly in the last 20 years, most Americans think that it has gone up.
Those charts are proof that the deception of the left and liberal media works. Fight back by letting people know the truth.
Dan Lan says
Congress has already approved a 2 year CR to fund the DOJ.
JC voted for it. There’s nothing that can be done to defund the DOJ at this point.
This is another impotent feel good action that seems useful but only looks good on paper.
2 years from now AG Lynch will be gone. Probably Culberson too.
Fred Flickinger says
I wish you were right about Culberson but I doubt it. He will puff his chest out as the big tough conservative until the elections are over. Then he will go back to his natural state.
Ed Vidal says
Culberson is a treasonous RINO who in October 2014 asked for reinforcements during an interview with Matt Patrick on AM740 radio. Then when we sent reinforcements in the election that November, he still voted for CRomnibus that year, and this year he voted for the Omnibus spending bill. Some conservative! He thinks that we are lazy and ignorant fools.
Now he is latching on to the gun control issue in order to burnish his conservative credentials, but it is all a hoax.
Fortunately we have two real conservatives running against him in the GOP primary, Maria Espinoza and James Lloyd, and they deserve our support. Check them out yourselves.
Stephen Damiani says
Why don’t you report the fact that Culberson voted to fund ($1.8 billion) not 10k, but 300,000 Syrian refugees this fiscal year alone,. 75-80{997ab4c1e65fa660c64e6dfea23d436a73c89d6254ad3ae72f887cf583448986} of the public opposes that and he can’t stand up and fight ? The same Cromnibus also created record numbers of job-killing H2B visas (low skilled workers) and he’s on record of supporting more H1B visas (high skilled). . These visas were created the dems and Bush 41 and allow companies to hire foreigners without even advertising the jobs for Americans. The youth unemployment rate for African Americans and other minority youth is unconscionable and rather than talk about it, Culberson makes it worse.
By the way,, the ex Bush official James Lloyd is a self-proclaimed homeland security expert, but Ive year to hear him say a word about any of this (security/immigration aspects of Cromnibus, H!B, H2b, etc.)
