The Missouri City, Texas City Council will hold two public hearings on a proposal to increase total tax revenues from properties on the tax roll in the preceding tax year by 7.21 percent (percentage by which proposed tax rate exceeds lower of rollback tax rate or effective tax rate calculated under Chapter 26, Tax Code).
Whew!
The first public hearing will be held on Sept. 19, 2103 at 6 p.m. at City Hall, Council Chambers, 1522 Texas Parkway, Missouri City, Texas.
The second public hearing will be held on Sep. 23, 2013 at 6 p.m. at City Hall, Council Chambers, 1522 Texas Parkway, Missouri City, Texas.
If you live in Missouri City or the ETJ, I encourage you to attend. Will a representative from the Fort Bend County Appraisal District will be in attendance as well?

Why would a representative of an appraisal district attend a tax rate setting hearing? The two are independent, and have totally different roles.

WRM, Thanks for asking.
In October 2011 the Harris County Department of Education considered raising its tax rate, ultimately voting to maintain the same rate for 2012. At that time, the Houston Chronicle reported that because property values had fallen, board member Roy Morales said that meant the rate had to go up to collect the same revenue.
Former HCTAC Sumners convinced the board to leave the rate untouched; Sumners presented data demonstrating the value of county properties was such that the district would bring in the same amount of tax revenues with the same tax rate in place.
Having a representative from the Fort Bend County AD at the two meetings would serve for the FBCAD to validate or discount Missouri City’s data on MC property values & tax revenues..IMHO.
WRM says
In a sane world, that analysis would be done before the hearing.

In a sane world, that analysis would be done before the hearing and presented to the residents affected….
