People who believe in the civil society do not demand rights and burn the American flag because their fellow Leftists are arrested for attacking police.
If you’re not up to speed on the events in the vicinity of a Border Patrol station near Murietta, California, this American Thinker article provides a good synopsis:
Last Tuesday, several hundred residents of Murietta, California turned out to protest the dumping of illegal alien children at a processing center in their town. They managed to block the buses carrying the illegals and forced them to turn back.
For that, they were villified as racists and “anti-immigrant” bigots.
While HHS has not attempted a repeat of their actions, pro-immigration reform activists have swarmed into the area to confront the protestors. The two sides spent the 4th of July demonstrating with a few scuffles breaking out.
Video has surfaced of one scuffle –scroll to the 4:20 mark where an illegal alien supporter talks about her justification for burning an American flag:
“People just got violently arrested and you want to know why I burned the American flag? Seriously?”
Yes, burning an American flag in protest is an exercise of First Amendment speech—but the out-of-control, disrespectful act of burning an American flag (or impaling torn up flags on fences) on American soil on Independence Day because fellow Leftists demanded rights and physically attacked police shows the contempt this individual has for the civil society.
Flag burners should be deported.
Sometimes you just can’t fix STUPID!
If they entered this country illegally they should be taken back, if they burned the flag they spit on our faces.
Flag-burners are not stupid; they are at best hypocrites. They enjoy the benefits of the rule of law in America, while seeking to undermine that rule of law by promoting unlawful immigration. Without the rule of law, America’s liberty and prosperity will be undermined, and we will become no better than Latin America.
Our liberty and prosperity is being undermined. Remember Obama said he was going to transform America and what better way to do it than to turn America into a third world country. Since April, there have been 290,000 illegal aliens, this is in addition to the 1,000 + a day that are being smuggled in that the US Border Patrol can’t catch because they too busy baby sitting and 90{997ab4c1e65fa660c64e6dfea23d436a73c89d6254ad3ae72f887cf583448986} of them will be allowed to stay. I just wonder how many more landscapers, sheet rock hangers, painters, hospitality workers and restaurant workers America needs. The business community must be ecstatic since they now have a future generation of slave labor and the Democrats will have a surplus of votes. Never mind the fact this will overwhelm our school systems, our welfare rolls, our jails and prisons and will bankrupt our country.
Flag burning is wrong. So was the war in Viet Nam. Is wearing a flag bikini disrespectful or patriotic? How about a flag made into shorts or a shirt? Is it ok for auto dealerships to fly big flags? Is that patriotic or disrespectful? Or do you care? And as far as the illegal immigrants go, wouldn’t it be better to shut down the border? Why won’t Congress act to close the 2008 loophole?
Burning of the American flag is protected speech, a lot of people did that during the Vietnam war.
There is no such thing as an “illegal alien”. Are most European looking people “aliens” to this land?
Are all descendents of people like Houston, Travis, etc who were “illegal aliens” to Texas anchor babies? They came here illegally there were laws that prohibited their entry into Mexico.
Most of my family does not support immigration reform but almost all of them will vote for the Democrats before they vote for a Republican.
The Bundy type of people are they anti-American?
Timothy McVeigh what was he?
Speech that seeks to create hate and demean people is exactly that and referring to humans as “illegal aliens” is that type of speech.
NAFTA created unemployment in Mexico and many of them are here now as jobs were lost. http://www.umich.edu/~ac213/student_projects07/global/nafta.html – If you bother to read the article you will find immigration increased after NAFTA went to effect in Central America. In 1994 I wrote an op on the Chronicle predicting an increase of immigration north. Jobs went south and immigration came north.
The purpose of the article has no merit other than to create hate or stir it up.
Below is a link to a youtube video of probably anti-immigration types burning the American flag.

Hmmmm. . . . where to start?
Burning the American flag is indeed protected speech. So is calling your mother a vile obscene, disgusting name. Neither one should be socially acceptable. Certainly neither should be practiced by civilized people.
“Illegal alien” is a popular term for a person who has entered the country without permission to do so. They are certainly not here legally – they broke the law when they entered without going through the proper procedures. (A discussion for a different time would be to compare our treatment of “uninvited guests” with the treatment they would receive in say Mexico, or Honduras. . . ) What would YOU like to call them?
References to people and/or actions from more than a century ago are somewhat silly and irrelevant. For that matter, it you want to talk about Travis, let’s also discuss Cortez, Pizarro, etc.
I have no idea what “the Bundy type people” are. Care to elucidate?
Timothy McVeigh was an evil man who was a mass murderer and terrorist. We found him, tried him, convicted him and put him to death. Your point?
Alien: “a non-citizen inhabitant of a country”. Illegal: “an action not permitted by law” By definition an illegal alien is a person who is a non-citizen and is in this country due to actions not permitted by law, ie. they came here without benefit of doing so legally. The term illegal alien when applied to a person who is in fact in our country illegally is neither hateful or demeaning, it is a statement of fact.
Your paragraph on NAFTA I find perplexing. Most people complain about NAFTA because it sent manufacturing jobs to Mexico and points south. That should have had to effect of improving the job market in Latin America. Apparently you believe so because you state that “Jobs went south”. So, if there are more jobs in Latin America, why are people coming here?
If your family doesn’t support immigration reform then why does it matter whether they are Republican or Democrat? I have lots of friends who are Democrats. I try to overlook their blindness. (They say the same about me!)
After reading the article a couple of times (I assume that you are referring to the original post written by Yvonne Larson) I confess that I am confused about your reaction. The purpose of the article was to discuss the flag burning by liberals who were supporting other liberals. Illegal aliens and their treatment, etc. were only mentioned as a precipitating cause. Care to comment?
Flag burning is protected first amendment speech.
Alien – foreign, nonnative – The definition depends on where you want to go with the word. Europeans are were not native to this country. Those brown looking folks that you all tend to call “illegals” are descendents of the original humans to the Americas, therefore the European looking folks are aliens.
Assuming one believes in evolution we are all Africans and alien to all other areas.
Certain jobs, i.e., manufacturing went south but NAFTA destroyed the small farmer in Mexico and Central America. Those persons who could no longer sustain a way of living came north.
By the way I fully expect China to start working with neighbors south of the border. They are already in talks with Nicaragua about building a canal.
Most immigrants, “illegals” as to not confuse you with the proper terminology, if given the chance to become citizens would not become citizens, 30 – 40 percent max.
If there were no “illegals” here we would be asking them to come especially when there is a need, like after a hurricane to do the clean up and tree trimming and removal.
Throughout its’ history the United States has relied on immigrants to do the hard work, things have not changed. With civil rights minorities were no longer confined to low level jobs. For example, when I worked at a chemical plant in Pasadena Blacks could only go up to a certain level. I for one was told by my high school counselor that I should not waste my time going to college as there would be no jobs for me. I am from Corpus Christi and attended a district where Blacks went to certain schools, Latinos to other schools, and the Whites went to different schools. Civil rights removed that barrier and jobs that minorities were forced to take were there with no takers.
I certainly don’t know the answer to the problem of “illegal” immigration but I do know that when people think “Illegals” they are thinking about people that look like me, my sons, grandchildren, many of my friends and relatives.
If I state that Whites are racists and keep stating Whites are racists and if a large segment of our society starts associating Whites as racists soon you will be considered a racist whether you are one or not. Most mass murderers in the United States are young white males are all young white males mass murderers?
Yes, the original post is what I was referring to. Chances are she lives in a house that was built by at least some persons that were not here with the permission of our government. Chances are that when she travels those highways to get to her job she travels on highways maintained and or built by people that did not have permission to be here. Food, assuming she eats, it is estimated that at least half of the folks that harvested the food are not here with the permission of our government. It is hypocritical to enjoy the fruits of the labor of people that one abhors while labeling them as something less than human.
Being here without proper documentation is a civil matter not a criminal matter. It is estimated that half of the people that are here without documentation arrived here legally via tourist visa or student visa.
OK, let’s try again:
Those “brown people” you refer to usually have at least some Spanish blood in them – meaning they are also descendants of the hated Europeans also. So what?
How can you possible claim to be an “immigrant” if you don’t want to be a part of the country you are “immigrating” to?
If Nicaragua wants to work with China to build a canal – that would be their right as a sovereign nation. I think it would be a mistake, but what do I know.
You are absolutely right. Our nation is indeed a nation of immigrants. We have seen immigrants come from all over the world to make a new home here. They have come, settled, become citizens, assimilated and contributed to the richness of the American culture. I am descended from German and Irish immigrants. One of my best friends is the son of a Mexican immigrant. My sister-in-law is a Cuban immigrant. In each case the people involved came here legally. They became citizens, they learned English, they assimilated. They became Americans.
Let’s be very clear here. I (and the vast majority of people here) don’t give a tinkers damn about your skin color. Nor do we care about your country of origin. What we do care is that you come here to live as an American and to give your allegiance to your new home. We care that you come in a lawful manner and that you live as a peaceful, law-abiding citizen. It’s tough to do that when your very first action is to break our immigration laws.
Along those same lines – coming here illegally does not mean you are not human, it means that you are a lawbreaker and are trespassing. If you break into my house it doesn’t mean you’re an animal, but it also doesn’t mean that I’m going to invite you to dinner.
Manuel—-I believe that if a business cannot make a profit without following the law, they should go out of business. Companies should be at risk of losing business licenses for failing to properly identify lawful employees using E-Verify or similar resource.
Yvonne, in that case, you can say good bye to affordable produce like strawberries, lettuce, and tomatoes that require humans to harvest. Farms require large amounts of labor for short periods of time. Read the comments from farmers in Alabama who could not keep Americans from leaving the tomato fields after a day or two, despite wages in the $12 to $15 per hour range. How much are you, personally, willing to pay to make it economic to hire lazy people who do not produce?
In 1998 I was talking to the sheetrock contractor on the house we were buying. He paid $13 per hour to his employees, about 75{997ab4c1e65fa660c64e6dfea23d436a73c89d6254ad3ae72f887cf583448986} of them illegals. His biggest complaint was that most of the Americans he hired quit, or were fired, because they did not want to work hard, came to work drunk, did not come to work for a few days, and generally were unreliable. He told me he just wanted employees who came to work and did their jobs. I have no reason to think this hasn’t changed.
Ross, it would probably be easier to convince people to hang sheetrock or pick tomatoes if we didn’t pay them to sit around on their asses. Between long-term unemployment and welfare, it’s pretty easy for an able-bodied person to just sit rather than work at a job that is unpleasant or physically demanding. Please note, I have no problem with providing support for those who are physically unable to provide for themselves, but we have an increasingly large segment of the population who are chronically unemployed simply because it’s easier to collect a government check.
On another point – I am also more than willing to concede that there needs to be some kind of guest worker program. But that is an issue separate and apart from the current problem of illegals crossing the border. It’s a two step process – first you must get control of the border. Then you can deal with everything else.
