Heh, you gotta love it when someone gets a taste of their own medicine! For years, Dan Patrick sat behind the microphone of KSEV in Houston and blasted every politician in sight. No matter what they did, they were wrong and Dannie let them know it. His rhetoric was only exceeded by his hypocrisy, leading people down one path while he took another.
One of the classic Dannie tales is about the so-called Rainy Day fund. Courts had ordered Texas to revamp its school finance system and the elected officials of Texas had come up with a “Business Tax” to replace 30{997ab4c1e65fa660c64e6dfea23d436a73c89d6254ad3ae72f887cf583448986} of the local school property tax. Dannie was very much against this reduction for homeowners because the “business tax” would force businesses that had avoided paying franchise taxes for years to begin to pay them. Dannie’s solution was to drain the Rainy Day fund, using half for school finance and refunding the rest to Texas residents. He had the whole gang over at KSEV ramped up and ready for war.
Then the Lt. Gov. called in to his radio show and explained to Dannie the importance of keeping the RDF intact for future emergencies. They got into a huge shouting match about it, with the Lt. Gov. finally giving up on educating Dannie about the RDF and hanging up. It was great radio!
Then a funny thing happened – Dannie got elected as a state senator! Goodness, how he changed. He even changed his radio station’s slogan from rabbleraising outsiders to the “political insiders”! And he learned an awful lot about government and financing – so much so that he is now the protector of the RDF! Go figure. Then he jumped on the Tea Party bandwagon and became a favorite son.
I say all of that so that you will understand why I think Dannie’s recent “endorsement” of Lt. Gov. Dewhurst and the reaction to it is so funny. Please take a moment to read that note and note that it talks mostly about Dannie – classic stuff. After you read the note, check out the comments. Here are some snippets:
WOW! Dan Patrick – you really have us fooled! You say you’re a conservative and you’re endorsing Dewhurst! I’m ashamed for you!!
Gag…..Dan!!! I had high hopes for you……Dooworst….really?
I think your part of the establishment now
Bad call Dan..this will come back to bite you. After the sham setup interview with Cruz recently your integrity has taken a hit. For all the ads that Dewhurst ran without merit and you take his side. You want to be Lt Govenor you just lacked the courage to do it the right way.
Dan, I am sorely disappointed in you. All of you on this comments page saying you are voting for Dewhurst should also be ashamed. Dewhurst is not the most conservative man in the race…and according to the Buckley rule…that is Cruz. Dewhurst has run a slanderous campaign full of lies…and Dan Patrick…you know this is true. You know Ted Cruz is WAY more conservative than Dewhurst…and you KNOW the only reason the governor is endorsing him is because he wants him OUT OF THE STATE! Lost a lot of respect for you. Maybe you are becoming part of that establishment.
oh really danny, call yourself a conservative while falling over backwards (into the dirt i might add) over rino (= mccain/hutchinson) dewhearst, and your obvious blindsided setup “interview” with Cruz… you’ve lost any right to call yourself conservative, or try to align with the TeaParty. you are now officially one of the OLD GOP ‘establishment’ true conservatives want nothing to do with.
The honorable thing for you to do at this time is to tender your resignation as Chairman of the Legislative Tea Party Caucus as you have decided to align against us in the most important race in the State of Texas since the Tea Party emerged. We will keep you in our prayers.
Heh, Dannie has created an army of little Dannie’s, people that cannot think critically and will trash you if you disagree with them. Even his insider Tea Party is distancing themselves from him.
What goes around, comes around.

In just a couple of years in Austin, Dan Patrick has gone from RINO-slayer to RINO. It is sort of sad, to tell you the truth. But then I already knew that was the case after he jumped into the local SD race after promising he was not going to make any endorsement in it.
Steve Bledsoe says
He’s a joke. He endorses every establishment politican out there. The only non-incumbent I’m aware of that he endorsed this year was a fellow named Ryan Patrick.
I’ll let you connect the dots on that one.

RINO increasingly seems to be code for Republicans who actually understand the state budget. Anyone saying anything ignorant that pleases the crowd can avoid the term, but whenever one’s views intersect with facts, much less mathematics, the appellation immediately crops up.
Cruz looks more conservative because he’s never had to take any votes or actually make governance decisions. The view from those entrusted with managing government is a lot different from self-proclaimed outsiders who don’t have the first clue how it operates. Most decisions about how government runs are non-ideological, but you’d never know that from the rhetoric in GOP primary debates.

Well, this is to be expected when “critical thinking” is stricken from the TX GOP party platform. Can’t have any of that!
