Can lightning strike twice? Chuck Maricle thinks it can. That is why he is taking on long-time Harris County Precinct 1 Commissioner El Franco Lee this November – he remembers Jack Morman’s unlikely win over Sylvia Garcia. If you live in Precinct 1, you have an opportunity to meet him this Saturday, August 11th, from 11:30 am until 3:00 pm at Bishop Park on Blackhawk Blvd. in the Sageglen subdivision. Click here for a map.
And if you don’t exactly know about Harris County Precinct 1, here is a map:
Yes, I know, it is bizarre. Look at that map and convince me that we don’t need to double the number of Precincts – Harris County is far too large to have four commissioners. Yeah, I know, bad Republican. But hey, good citizen! I’ll take it!
At any rate, why not head over and meet Mr. Maricle. Who knows? Lightning could strike twice.

The Texas State Constitution says that every county is governed by a County Judge and 4 Commissioners. Anybody who runs for a Harris County-wide office will tell you there’s a lot of territory to cover. Nobody has picked up on my idea of drawing political districts with a ruler, or even by geographical features. Once you start gerrymandering, it can get out of hand.
Look at the map–use I-10 as the north/south divider, then use the Hardy Toll Road (and Hardy Street to downtown through the Near North Side) to connect with 59/288. Four commissioners’ precincts!
