Mayor Sylvester Turner must really NOT want his pension legislation to succeed in Austin. While conservatives in Austin will be so glad to see Acevedo gone, his arrival here is a nightmare for every second amendment supporter in Houston.
Certainly the HPOU hall is abuzz with the news. There is no way that Ray Hunt and the HPOU leadership can be happy with this appointment.
Big Jolly readers need to know that Acevedo is a BIG sanctuary city proponent.
Art Acevedo is anti-gun. Acevedo testified against the campus carry bill and is an open critic to the open carry law.
While I wholly disagreed with the Martha Montalvo selection as interim police chief, it is difficult to think of a worse pick than Acevedo. This makes the need for a well-qualified, conservative US Attorney for the Houston area even more important. Geez.
Yet one more reason to not actually live in the City of Houston – or spend any of my money there!
Great article on Acevedo and I couldn’t agree with you more, he will be a nightmare for Houston. The “professional hispanics” and the illegal alien population in Houston will be thrilled with Turner’s choice. Acevedo has testified against every piece of anti-sanctuary city legislation that’s been filed in Austin and his only loyalty is with the hispanic community (legal and illegal). He and the mayor of Austin are the reason Austin is listed as a sanctuary city. Houston already has defacto sanctuary city policy and Acevedo will make sure Houston becomes another Austin, New York or Chicago. Thanks a lot Mayor Turner.
I hope y’all enjoy “no refusal roadside warrantless blood draws” Acevedo…good riddance!
Acevedo fits in perfectly with HPOU and their shenanigans. They are all anti gun (unless its them carrying it) proponents and discourage citizens from carrying fire arms or protecting them selves. Were would the union be if a citizen could protect them self ? They wouldn’t be able to justify their stratified salaries and multi millions of dollars for retirement if the public were permitted to defend them selves. Look at the waste of time public town hall meeting that Devon Anderson and the former police chef and city attorney put on when there was suddenly going to be open carry. They panicked and enacted nazi like policies to stop ad detain any person seen carrying a fire arm openly. Yes the state legislative act stated they could do so but why bother? The union didnt contest this , of course not its good for business. Why pay 45.00 and hour to HPD to openly carry a gun in your business. after all no one should but them right ? I think Acevedo was a perfect match for HPOU.
