BUZBEE SAYS ‘BE ALERT’ OF FALSE ADVERTISING
Tony Buzbee announces intention to file suit against Sylvester Turner, Clear Channel
On April 5, 2019, Mayor Sylvester Turner unveiled the new Alert Houston promotional campaign, which is ostensibly being funded through a grant received from the Texas Office of Emergency Management. According to Turner, Alert Houston is “a service that helps educate us… about severe weather conditions, road closures, and other incidents with potential public safety impact.” The purported goal of the campaign is to encourage Houstonians to sign up to receive emergency alerts through the system. Part of the campaign includes putting Turner’s smiling face on 27 billboards across the City of Houston.
The billboard locations, along with radio ad space, were donated by Clear Channel Outdoor. Clear Channel has been lobbying the city to allow digital billboards within city limits and has also worked to convince the city—specifically the Mayor—to allow the relocation of billboards that would otherwise be removed due to the City’s billboard policy. According to Buzbee, “City Hall in Houston is for sale, and this is more proof of that. Rather than promoting public safety, these billboards do nothing but promote this failed mayor.” Buzbee will be filing a petition, through his lawyer, in Harris County District Court against Clear Channel Outdoor and Sylvester Turner for violations of campaign finance laws, which stipulate that “civil penalties can be imposed for illegal campaign contributions” and corporate donations, such as these billboards and ad space from Clear Channel, to political campaigns are strictly illegal. “The value of this illegal and unreported campaign donation will easily exceed a million dollars. If they really cared about public safety, why put this mayor’s picture that takes up more than half of the space on the billboards? This mayor doesn’t care about public safety—if you need proof of that just look at how he has failed us with inadequate police protection and laying off firefighters. It’s time to end the blatant corruption at City Hall,” Buzbee said.
I love how aggressive both Tony Buzbee and Bill King are campaigning against the corrupt Sylvester Turner. By the time the election rolls around, no Houstonian will be able to say that they didn’t know about Turner’s corruption.

Lots a luck ….. in court.

I didn’t vote for Turner during the last election and won’t vote him this election, but a lawsuit for this is idiotic.
Brian says
Why is holding the mayor accountable to the citizens idiotic? If he’s in violation of the campaign finance laws then he should face the consequences.
Tony Buzbee says
I’ve won more cases than any lawyer in this state. I think perhaps I would know a case that has merit and a case that is “idiotic.” Hide and watch what happens.

It might get some traction. Helena Brown-Sluzen did something similar with those magnet stickers with her pretty face and number to call if there was problem in your neighborhood. Magnets were to be paid by the city. The city called it a campaign finance and made her pay for those magnets.
If they did that with Helena, why not Sylvester?
PeterD says
Alex, the magnets spelled out her campaign platform while the billboards just use Sly’s picture as the “de facto head of the city’s emergency manager” or something like that. In addition, the city didn’t sue Ms. Brown, they requested an opinion from the Texas Ethics Commission, a better first step in my estimation. I’ll leave the legal questions to Tony, my personal choice for mayor, but I have to admit this is not his strongest presentation to voters.

Seems like a good fact question to go before a jury.

Lawsuits usually have an injured party asking for reliefs and it is usually the plaintiff however i do support whistle blowers but with real legal claims and i do not have to be an attorney to know this much if Tony is injured all of us mayoral candidates are injured too and what is the relief Buzbee is seeking? I will soon find out and NO i do not support this current mayor period and Buzbee should be focused on solving his so called Robbery case that he’s no longer talking about like this case went cold turkey he lost millions of dollars in Art work and other properties allegedly and he’s a tough on crime candidate seemingly how about being tough on finding these robbers who had time of enough to go through his house and have a buffet on taking materials out of his house having time enough to pack in their car and get away..Yeah right! what robber wants art work? certainly not black and brown people he never described the robbers race so who are these robbers CASPER?
Bring it BUZBEE!!!!! and no i do not need you to validate my candidacy by giving me free pub by mentioning my name or giving me time of day going back and forward you better believe i am coming and you guys will not be able to hide me too long…

Without regard to your politics. . . .
After reading your post, you might be better served by taking a couple of remedial English courses rather than running for Mayor. . .
