Watching the media spin on slick Nick Lampson’s voting record is about the same as watching Linda Blair’s head spin. The Texas Tribune turns to Rice University’s Mark Jones to put lipstick on the Lampson voting record.
Lampson’s voting record during his five terms in the U.S. House reveals a Democrat who became increasingly conservative as his tenure progressed, according to a statistical analysis of his congressional roll call votes.
Good lord. Jones completely misses the point of that “increasingly conservative” voting record. After he was booted out of office in 2004, Lampson managed to win my congressional district 22 when Tom Delay screwed up his timing when he resigned. You do remember the gosh-awful “vote twice for Shelley” campaign, don’t you?
What Jones misses is that on every crucial vote, votes that Nancy Pelosi needed to push her agenda through, Lampson voted with her. The times he voted “conservative” were with her permission because she had enough votes to prevail without him. It is hard to believe that Jones would risk his reputation with a column like this one. Here is what Nick Lampson voted for:
- Card check – eliminating the secret ballot when forming unions. Conservative?
- Expanded home loans for people that shouldn’t buy homes, leading to the financial crash. Conservative?
- Voted to allow felons to receive student loan benefits. Conservative?
- Voted against drilling in ANWR five times, opposed clean coal, voted against new refineries. Conservative?
- Supported the Pelosi/Murtha strategy of ‘slow-bleed’ defeat us in Iraq. Remember that? Conservative?
- Pulled an Obama and did not vote to repeal the DC arms ban. Conservative?
I could go on and on. I’ve seen Jones try to do this on other occasions, defining what is “conservative” and what isn’t, then trying to tell us who is or isn’t a conservative. Using subjective analysis of raw statistics when applied to a politician without regard to context is a fool’s game. Nick Lampson is about as conservative as Nancy Pelosi, which is why this is the most important part of Jones’ column:
However, if elected, Lampson would bring the Democratic Party one seat closer to majority status in the House, and with it, near absolute control over the House legislative agenda. Thus while Lampson is in many ways the epitome of the modern-day moderate/conservative Democrat, the U.S. House leadership he would help put into power (i.e., Nancy Pelosi and her team) holds positions on a wide array of public policies which are notably to the left of his own.
And that is really all you need to know about Nick Lampson. His first vote will be to elect Nancy Pelosi as Speaker. ’nuff said.
But if you still need convincing, take a look at what happens when union thug Nick returns to his roots:
That’s right, the slick one decides to bully some dude with a camera that dared to challenge him about civility. Wanna know the real Nick Lampson? You just saw him. There is nothing conservative, bipartisan, or civil about slick Nick Lampson.
CD14 has long been represented by a true conservative, Ron Paul. It would be a shame to see that district represented by a hustler pretending to share Dr. Paul’s political views. Randy Weber is a proven conservative and contributed to the strong Texas economy by voting conservative every time, all the time.
If you live in CD14, you need to make the smart choice and vote to send Randy Weber to Washington.
