Say what? Letting you know about a fundraiser for a small town city council candidate? Am I nuts? Don't answer that.
Here's the deal. We need good candidates at all levels of government. When we find them, we need to support them. And while it doesn't take a huge amount of money to run a race for city council in a small town, you'd be surprised at the amount necessary. To run for an at-large seat and win in La Porte will cost between $7 and $10 thousand dollars. That is a significant amount of money for most people to spend on something that is obviously non-essential for your personal household funds.
As for the person, Les is a very good friend. Hey, anyone that would attend my Sunday School class for several years has to be a good friend, right?! He's been on several city commissions, most recently the Planning and Zoning board.
Why not come out tomorrow evening and meet him? You'll also get to chat with new Precinct 2 County Commissioner Jack Morman – how's that for a bonus? Here are the details:

Even small towns have wasteful spending of taxpayer money and we need to be certain that the people we elect are mindful of the fact that we cannot waste taxpayer money. One of the issues that La Porte is facing now is a group of do-gooders that want to build their very own "Safetytown" and have the City of La Porte pay for the upkeep. Unbelieveble.
See you tomorrow night!
