The headshaking started early today. I just had to read Harvey Kronberg’s Quorum Report’s daily News Clips You Need to See email and this headline popped out: GROUP AIMS TO BRING GOD INTO POLITICS. I shouldn’t have let Google search for it but I couldn’t resist.

Sure enough, the usual suspects are involved. The article mentions Rep. Wayne Christian and our old buddy Ray Myers, but when you go to the website, you get to see the rest of the cast. There’s Rick Scarborough and Vision America, Stephen Broden (let’s hope he leaves his guns at home), and Myers’ sidekick, John Cook. What a fine group of Christians!

Surely you remember Cook and Myers trying to oust the Jew, right? Here is a little taste:

“I want to make sure that a person I’m supporting is going to have my values. It’s not anything about Jews and whether I think their religion is right or Muslims and whether I think their religion is right. … I got into politics to put Christian conservatives into office. They’re the people that do the best jobs overall,” Cook said.

But of course, he isn’t prejudiced or anything:

“My favorite person that’s ever been on this earth is a Jew. How can they possibly think that if Jesus Christ is a Jew, and he’s my favorite person that’s ever been on this earth?” exclaimed Cook.

Why, I bet he even has a “friend” or two that are black or Latino that he can pull out when he needs to.

When I look at the “program” for this “church service”, it makes me want to puke. It is much more like a celebration and worship of government than it is of Jesus. As for bringing God back into politics, doesn’t Christian theology say that the Holy Spirit is within every believer? If that is true, how do you bring God back unless you haven’t been living under the guidance of the Holy Spirit in the first place?

Heh, I can hear ol’ Ray now – that’s the point! People aren’t letting the Holy Spirit guide them! Only we are! We are pure!

Um, yeah, right. Sorry bubba, hate is not a part of the Holy Spirit’s guidance. You might need to go back to the drawing board. Perhaps even read the Bible. You know, the parts besides Leviticus.  All that lovey dovey stuff that is in there. Love your neighbor, yada yada yada.

Now do you understand why the tea parties in Texas have lost so much significance: they’ve turned away from the economy as the major issue we face. And as an aside, I’d love to see these guys try to do this: The Year of Living Biblically: One Man’s Humble Quest to Follow the Bible as Literally as Possible. It might open their eyes.

As for the ones out there that will criticize me for criticizing these fine Christians, save it. I don’t care.
