A press release from the Sen. Joan Huffman campaign:
LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS ENDORSE
STATE SENATOR JOAN HUFFMANLAW ENFORCEMENT ASKING VOTERS OF SENATE DISTRICT 17 TO JOIlM WITH THEM TO SUPPORT AND RE-ELECT SENATOR JOAN HUFFMAN
HOUSTON: Today, law enforcement officers representing numerous state, county and municipal agencies within the boundaries of Texas Senate District 17 announced their unanimous endorsement of State Senator Joan Huffman’s reelection campaign for the Texas Senate.
The Houston Police Officers’ Union PAC, Texas Municipal Police Association (TMPA), who represent multiple law enforcement agencies in the counties of Harris, Brazoria, and Fort Bend, Texas Department of Public Safety Officers’ Association, Harris County Deputies’ Organization, and the Houston Metro Police Union, FOP Lodge 98, joined forces to voice their united support of Senator Joan Huffman.
TMPA’s spokesman, Mitch Landry stated, “Senator Huffman proved to law enforcement officers that she is a champion for working men and women who have committed their lives to protecting the public. Senator Huffman gets it and her experience as a Prosecutor, Criminal District Court Judge and Senator enables her to help us shape smart, innovative, and lasting criminal justice public policy.”
Ray Hunt, immediate past president of the HPOU echoed TMPA’s view, “Senator Huffman worked closely with us last session to craft fair and meaningful changes to the pensions of police officers, fire fighters, and municipal employees. Through her leadership, Senator Huffman protected the interests of all police officers, fire fighters, municipal employees and taxpayers involved in the legislative process to reform and protect the pensions of police, fire, and municipal employees.”
Ray Hunt concluded, “Senator Huffman, in her capacity as Chairman of the extremely important State Affairs Committee, proved herself to be an experienced and wise leader in the Texas Senate. She’s honest and open-minded. As police officers, that is a quality we expect from our policy makers. Senator Huffman is a great Senator and we are here today to encourage the voters of SD 17 to keep her as our Senator in the Texas Senate.”
I haven’t paid much attention to this race because it is on the far side of the county and Huffman has been a solid conservative voice for Republicans. This endorsement is not surprising but it is critical. I wish her well.

It’s no surprise when many of those same police organizations came out to testify against the RPT’s number one legislative priority, Constitutional Carry, Huffman is vocally opposed to the party’s directive on this and she let her true philosophical leanings shine through in the Senate floor debate where she basically said our rights come from government. I haven’t heard word one from her opponent on this issue but considering she owns a gun range and is invested in the licensing process I would imagine her position on this won’t be much different from Huffman’s.

Nope , she needs to go. ethics question of HB 3511 amendment in 2015 should have done it.. Hiding something, and in bed with Mayor Turner (D) to carry his bill. Before last session police and city employees had no state protection on pensions or did they? Smells like some kind of payoff that the average worker and taxpayer will never know.
