In case you were unaware, there is an election happening in Pasadena, Texas. Mayor Johnny Isbell is term limited and this is the first election since Judge Lee Rosenthal’s ruling that Pasadena deliberately diluted the Hispanic vote. The Justice Department is sending observers to monitor Saturday’s election.
The mayoral race includes Robert Talton, House District 144 State Representative from 1993 until 2009. Talton’s true conservative credentials threaten establishment Republicans; so, local Republican officials are doing everything in their power to make certain that Talton is unsuccessful in this election.
I have known Robert Talton for many years and, thankfully, Pasadena voters know Robert Talton – a consistent, common sense conservative. Talton is a strong leader who knows the law and is able to keep his community safe. In 2007, Talton sponsored the first anti-sanctuary city bill.
Talton has been a resident of Pasadena since 1949. In 1963, Talton graduated from Pasadena High School and later graduated from the University of Houston and South Texas College of Law. Talton has served Pasadena as a police officer, police legal advisor, prosecutor, city attorney, municipal judge, and state representative.
Talton has served as general counsel to the local Republican Harris County Party and is an expert on legislative procedure. Talton led many bills through the Texas House when he was there and was an expert in killing bad bills. There is nowhere in Harris County where you do not see his influence.
Robert is always one of those guys who quickly lands on the right answer. Robert Talton’s anti-corruption efforts at the state and local level are well-known. In fact, that is why the establishment has fought against Robert for years. It would be nice for the people of Pasadena to have the guy who everyone else looks to for guidance at their helm.
Talton and his wife, Sue, attended Richey Street Baptist Church for almost fifty years and are now members of Sagemont Church.
I hope that Pasadena voters prove the Houston establishment wrong and elect Talton as mayor.
On Saturday May 6, go vote at one of the Pasadena voting locations. Tell your church groups, friends, neighbors, and co-workers to find their polling location and vote on Saturday from 7 a.m.-7 p.m.!
Sounds like somebody Houston could use. If only.
This guy is a professional candidate. Former candidate for state representative, former candidate for Congress, former candidate for Texas Supreme Court, former candidate for county attorney, current candidate for Pasadena mayor.
Enough with the professional politicians (especially the ones failing repeatedly). He’s not in it for us; he’s in it for him.
He served 8 terms in the legislature, and voluntarily retired from there. He ran unsuccessfully for Supreme Court and County Attorney, but there is no reason he would not be a great mayor.
I’m Tom Zakes and I approve this message.
I approve of Tom’s take too.
He also ran unsuccessfully for Congress in the 22nd District. He’s just running for different offices until he finally wins one.
So, do you actually have a point, other than you don’t want Mr. Talton to win? Are YOU planning on running for office? Is there a candidate you support, or do you just enjoy throwing rocks at the candidates who are in the race?
My point was made Tuesday, when voters rejected yet another politician who wishes to make his entire career in politics – in any office at all. No, I’m not planning on running for office – because I am not the best qualified. Clearly, voters didn’t believe Mr. Talton was even among the four best qualified. But he’ll run again next year, or the year after.
It’s amazing all the times Robert Talton did the right thing inspite of political expediency. I have seen Robert stand up against the largest special interests groups in the state. I have personally seen him stand up to the Speaker of the House to do the right thing, the Speaker stripped him of his committee in retaliation. Talton did this over management districts and TIRZS that he knew would strip Houston of money.
JC Watt once said, “character is what you do when no one is looking”. This is the very definition of Robert Talton. I know this because he did these things for me. I watched what Speaker Craddick did to him. Robert Talton has more character in his pinky than most men have in their whole body. He is a humble servant of the lord and I say this about Robert because he would never say it about himself. I do not give my endorsement lightly and every elected official I have ever given it too earned my respect long before I did so.
Talton is running for Mayor because he truly cares about the city he loves, he has no personal reason to run.
I’ve personally known Bob since I was a wee lad, and you are correct in that he is a very good man and stands on principle. I’m chiming in here only because it’s hard for anyone to take Don’s comments serious when he was out front pushing for Buster Frump, hardly the principled guy. Makes people wonder if you can recognize principle and how lightly you may take your endorsements.
