As such, I loved seeing this from Randy Kubosh on Facebook this morning:
Randall D Kubosh The Republican Elite R afraid of the TeaParty people. Gary Polland for example has come out FOR all of the Houston Props 1, 2 and 3. Gary’s “so-called “Voter’s OFFICIAL GUIDE- Texas Conservative Review” is anything but in regards 2 the PROPS. How can HE call himself a conversative & be 4 increased TAXES. I wonder how much $ Gary Polland was paid the support the PROPS? Gary needs to be OUTED! … Randy
Randall D Kubosh DEBUNK – Gary Pollands support of the HOUSTON PROPS – Sorry, Gary, you can’t call yourself a Conversative Voice if you are for the HOUSTON PROPS. The TEA PARTY people won’t stand for it!
Oh, my, where do I start? Well, first of all, I’d warn Randy that some “tea party” groups are so tied into this network of pay to play people that you can forget about their support – unless you pay them. Second, let’s take a look at what Randy is talking about, Gary Polland’s Texas Conservative (hardly) Review Voter’s guide. Take a look first at Mr. Polland’s take on ReNew Houston (page 3):
We are clearly not comfortable with not exempting religious institutions from the fee and we feel there are still a lot of detailed questions city leaders must answer about how this will all be executed. For example, we would be happier with more uniformity and certainty in the proposed fees. But there is a greater good fore (sic) the entire community to be done here and we must lay the groundwork now.
Right off, you see one problem. Mr. Polland “feels” instead of “thinks”. Because a thinking person would never support this boondoggle. As for that greater good? Easy. Flip to page 9.
Why, I’ll be danged. A full page ad from the boys at ReNew Houston.
There’s your greater good, Randy. Bucks in Mr. Polland’s pocket.
As for the revenue cameras, Mr. Polland says this (page 5):
(b) the public’s side of the proceeds go to the Houston Police Dept. and area Trauma Centers replacing tax dollars so that is a good thing
Well, no, actually, it isn’t a good thing. Reminds me of Bill King’s argument that the dollars raised were worth losing the freedoms given up. You know, like that grade school joke about would you to this for a million bucks and if you say yes, then the guy says, well, here’s 10 bucks, give me just a little. In other words, we’ve settled that you are willing to be a prostitute, now we’re just negotiating.
And about that revenue that supposedly goes to the Trauma Centers? Listen to Houston Mayor Annise Parker:
“It is sort of a bait-and-switch on the part of state officials,” she said. “If they want to have a money grab from local institutions they ought to say that is what it is.”
So much for that argument. Prop 1 and 3 are plain old money grabs by people that want to grow government. And good old “conservative” Republicans are funding the support of this garbage.
Mr. Polland isn’t alone. His little buddy, Terry Lowry, also gets into the act, producing a special edition of the “Link Letter”. You know, that “newsletter” that is usually only published at Republican primary time? What does Mr. Lowry think? Why, he thinks revenue cameras increase safety! But worse than that, the guy outed himself as someone that doesn’t care at all for liberty and can’t wait for the day he can put a camera into your bedroom. Seriously.
We have cameras at banks, in the mall, in schools, at grocery stores, and in most businesses. Cameras are utilized to capture the image and activity of law breakers, protecting everyone – the innocent and criminal alike.
That one stunned even a hard-core Lowry hater like me. Unfreakingbelievable!
But this didn’t. Turn to page 3 and what do we see? A full page ad paid for by the pro-revenue camera PAC. Now that didn’t stun me at all. In fact, I KNEW that I would find that when I saw that he was for the cameras.
I hope that Mr. Kubosh and others will remember this and help me in 2012.
As for you “conservative” candidates that subsidized this drivel, no mercy in 2012. No mercy at all.
Visit The Problem with Prop 1 for the truth about ReNew Houston’s money grab.
Visit Citizens Against Red Light Cameras for the truth about the revenue cameras.
As for you Democrats that find yourself in bed with these two….well, maybe you like that stuff.
Now, ask yourself this, if you are a conservative, that is. How could ANY self-described conservative in Harris County NOT endorse John Faulk in CD-18 over incumbent Sheila Jackson Lee? Mr. Polland didn’t. Enough said.
