Our pastor at Neartown Church, Russell Cravens, sent out a tweet heard round the Jolly household this morning:
Today is @compassion Sunday @
neartownchurch. “Releasing children from poverty in Jesus’ name”. Let’s do this.
During the service, he talked about the need for Christians to do more than just talk about their faith and described his relationship with Compassion International and the child his family has sponsored for the past 15 years. He had packets available of different children and urged those in attendance to “adopt” a child if we were so moved.
So meet the newest member of the Jolly household, Daniel:
Why did my wife and I choose Daniel? Well, it turns out that he was born on August 2nd. Guess what? So was I! What better “sign” do you need when you walk up to a table full of packets containing information on children around the world that could use a hand up?
For years, my wife and I have supported Tom and Amy Morrow and their work with orphans in the Congo and we will continue doing that. You can find out about them by visiting MissionaryFamily.com. Or for a better look at their daily lives, try Tom’s blog at LivingStoneMan.com or Amy’s blog at AmysAdventures.org. Missionary work isn’t for the squeamish!
Adopting Daniel is just a more personal way of helping someone. Especially since he shares my birthday! And he’s not the only one – remember what happened August 2, 2012?
That’s right, Itty Bitty Jolly came roaring into our lives on my birthday!
Hey, if you are so inclined, make my pastor’s day by going to Compassion International’s list of children in Ecuador, and maybe one of the children will leap out at you.
Signs, signs, everywhere a sign….
Have a great Sunday! And remember, no matter what, as my friend, former KSEV radio host Mike Richards says, don’t let anyone steal your joy!
Kyleen Wright says
I am so proud of you and for you and Daniel! I pray that together you all experience God's very best and all his joy!
