As some of you have noticed, we recently changed the BJP website. One of the more interesting changes to me is the right sidebar that searches old posts.
There are lots and lots of broken links from websites and groups that are no longer around. Those posts are most often meaningless and irrelevant for today.
But one post caught my eye and was so totally relevant to our discussion on ‘endorsement slates’ that I thought I should bring it to your attention.
In hindsight I could have used a better title. But you really, seriously need to read this link and listen to the Link Letter’s proprietor if you want to understand why the HCRP lost so overwhelmingly in 2016. We can blame the current HCRP chair all day long if we want but that will not get us closer to the truth about why we lost so badly. I think that if you read what I wrote almost 8 years ago about one of the so-called ‘Big 3’ you will begin to understand.
Mr. Lowry manages to go one better. Actually two, but I’m working on the second one for a different post. Near the end of his fourth segment with Mr. Robertson, Mr. Lowry decides it is time to tear down County Judge Ed Emmett. Take a listen, I clipped this one out for you.
How’s that for boosting the party? Ed Emmett is probably the best weapon the party has right now and the Voter Registration Chair decides he needs to be taken down a notch. And people complain that I say bad things about Republicans? Unreal.
If you, as a candidate, have spent your money in the past or have decided to spend your money in this election cycle with one or more of the ‘Big 3’, you are facilitating the demise of the HCRP. You are deciding that a big tent is the wrong way to go. You are deciding to try and win a race in the short term only to infect the party with this small tent mindset in the future.
Just thought that I’d remind you.
Meantime, I’ll support County Judge Ed Emmett and any candidate that rejects this type of campaigning.
