Is Mike Sullivan paving the way for a party switch?

Mike Sullivan

I doubt it but stranger things have happened. Who’d a thunk that Harris County Tax Assessor Collector Mike Sullivan would sit down to lunch with a guy that has advocated to kill the very people that voted for Sullivan? From Yvonne Larsen:

Texas State Democratic Executive Committee member John Cobarruvias who advocated the murder of NRA President David Keene. John’s death threats were reported on conservative blog sites such as Rhymes With Right, Michelle Malkin, PJ Media, and Breitbart, in addition to the Michael Berry and Sean Hannity radio shows.

John’s history includes disrespecting Texas Attorney General Abbott back in March 2010 when he called for the AG to “get off his ass and take a stand” and issuing a 2011 threat to “billy club” Texas State Representative Debbie Riddle for her stance on requiring photo ID at the polls.

So I was quite surprised to learn Texas Republican and Harris County Tax Assessor- Collector Mike Sullivan “bloglunched” with John Cobarruvias and Scrambled Brains & Lobotomized Eggs.

Not to mention that the guy wanted to shoot King Street Patriots poll watchers or Put a cap in their ass!

Now why do you think Sullivan would do that? Simply “being non-partisan about the discharge of electoral responsibility” as suggested by Lobotomized Eggs? Doubtful since the meeting only included Democrats – last I heard, non-partisan meant you didn’t single out one party. And the party was scheduled by Sullivan’s new communications guy – a guy that Sullivan borrowed from Houston Mayor Annise Parker. So no, I’m not buying the “discharge of electoral responsibility” line. But it is a good line.

I think Sullivan sees the writing on the wall. I tried to warn fellow Republicans but I suppose only Sullivan listened and instead of trying to fix what is wrong with the Harris County Republican Party, he’s decided to make nice with the Democrats in hopes he can win again in 2016. Whether or not he switches parties is irrelevant. To a person, every blogger that he went to lunch with, even the advocate for killing Republicans, praised Sullivan and trashed his Republican predecessors. And Republicans in general.

Nice going Mike. Although, you really can’t blame him. The HCRP has done nothing to indicate that they are willing to make the adjustments necessary to win Harris County in 2014, much less 2016. Survival is a politician’s first response. Which makes sitting down and breaking bread with someone that has threatened to kill your voters even more puzzling.

Imagine if Houston Mayor Annise Parker sat down with a group of bloggers that included one for the KKK. It’d be on the front page of any big city newspaper. But a Republican sitting down with with a guy that wants to put a cap in Republicans? Meh.
