1. Who are you, and what are you running for?
My name is George Huntoon and I am running for Harris County Justice of the Peace, Precinct 5, Place 2.
2. What kind of cases does this court hear?
Traffic, Truancy, Eviction, Civil-Small Claims
3. Why are you running for this particular bench?
I have always had a favorable impression of a justice of the peace. The JP that we had in Spring when I was growing up was very involved with the community and really made a difference in our lives. And when I learned that the current Judge was retiring, I knew this was the right time and position to run for.
4. What are your qualifications for this job?
This court has a very heavy case load. It has many employees and can be a high stress environment. I have the proven management and leadership experience to run this court at peak efficiency to the taxpayer while doing justice for the parties in the court.
This court handles truancy cases. I have the personal and business background to deal with student truancy. I will be a leader in the community and a role model to the students. I will use conventional and unconventional methods for deterring truancy.
This court handles evictions. My career in real estate has made me very experienced in real estate contracts and the property code. I will base my decisions on the contract, the property code and case precedent.
5. Why is this race important?
This race is important because the next JP will need to be someone that has the professional skills and personality to deal with heavy case loads, interact with the public, and work at a fast pace. I have these qualities.
6. Why should people vote for you in the primary?
I am the most qualified candidate in the race. I will serve with honor, integrity, and respect for others. I will make this court as efficient as possible. I pledge to make every experience with the court as pleasant as possible.
7. Why did you choose to run in the Republican Primary versus the Democratic Primary?
I am a lifelong Republican.
