This is with your money, folks. In buildings you are paying for. Written by a student/staff member paid $9/hr (worth every penny, I’m sure).
Read the article here. It isn’t online – look at the website for the paper and you will understand both why it isn’t online and why the “reporting” is so very poor. If this is an example of the type of education students are receiving at the various HCCS campuses, we need to shut them down yesterday.
Here is a few samples of HCCS style “journalism”:
- The day of the fire every media outlet across the nation had something to say about the suspicious fire, but strangely enough nothing has been reported since. NOTE – this edition is dated 9/15 – the HFD released information that same day that no accelerates had been found. And seriously – “every media outlet across the nation”?
- Logically seeing as warehouses are not know to magically combust in the wee hours of the morning my instincts suspect arson. NOTE – seriously, folks, this is the front page of the HCCS official newspaper.
- Even if Perry himself was not responsible for the fire personally I would be willing to bet money that one of his tea bagger’s did it in the name of Perry, God and country. NOTE – front page, folks. Do they even teach English at HCCS?
- Obviously we will not be able to replace the voting machines that were torched and the plan as of now is to attempt to borrow machines from surrounding counties. But seeing as every county will be utilizing their machines it is safe to say we are all around f*cked. NOTE – Obviously, we did replace most of the machines. Front page, folks.
- All of this seemed even more ridiculous when I realized that True the Vote had photo shopped one of the ladies signs that was used in their racist video. – FALSE (plus, there really shouldn’t be a space between photo and shopped)
I could go on, but you get the point. If this is indicative of the HCCS as a whole, what a waste of taxpayer money. Goodness.
You know how to change crap like this? Contact the board of trustees and tell them you are not going to settle for such poor results from their “educational” institution. If you aren’t happy with the reply they give you, replace them. Only they can fix a system this broken and if they won’t do it, find someone who will. Here is the current list of trustees:
- Yolanda Navarro Flores
- Bruce A. Austin
- Mary Ann Perez
- Dr. Michael P. Williams
- Richard M. Schechter
- Sandie Mullins
- Neeta Sane
- Eva Loredo
- Christopher W. Oliver
At least one of them, Yolanda Navarro Flores, is already under investigation for “possibly improper business deals” according to Ericka Mellon of the Houston Chronicle.
If you think the fight is only against the leviathan in Washington D.C., you are very much mistaken. We need to take back EVERY elected position and put someone in place that will spend taxpayer money wisely and DEMAND high quality results from those that live off of the taxpayers.
Obviously, the English and Journalism teachers (I hesitate to call them professors) at the HCCS aren’t getting the job done.
