Contrary to this report from Brian Rogers in the Houston Chronicle, the Harris County Republican Party, aka the Harris County GOP, is remaining neutral in the appointment process for the vacant Harris County District Attorney position. In a smackdown of Harris County Republican Party Chair Jared Woodfill, the party’s executive committee, which is comprised of precinct chairs, approved a resolution put forth by Precinct 661 chair Tom Bazan at their quarterly meeting last night.

The resolution was not about Mrs. Anderson. It was about the Party chair once again going around the party’s leadership. As for why Woodfill did this in the first place, he is supposed to return my call inquiring about that. But my guess is that he is trying to make up with the Anderson faction that split the party so badly in the 2012 primary in order to help himself in the 2014 primary. Remember, Woodfill supported Pat Lykos in that race. Which makes this quote from Deborah Wrigley’s report on ABC 13 humorous at best:
“I’m looking for someone qualified, who shares Mike’s vision and can run for election. She meets all those criteria,” Harris County GOP Chair Jared Woodfill said.
Seriously Jared? Someone who shares Mike’s vision of the good ol’ boys days of lock ’em up and throw away the key while withholding evidence from defense attorneys? Talk about a filp/flop. That is 180 degrees from your comments during the 2012 primary.
Good for the precinct chairs asserting their power. That is a positive sign for the future of the party.

It is a good sign, but I'll take the GOP Exec Committee seriously when they decide to elect somebody with a brain to be County Chairman.

The EC needed to smack Woodfill down, good going. But I wonder how many in the EC really worked to get Jared re re re re reelected.
Karen Townsend says
I am pleased that the move for some candidates to get the endorsement from the exec committee was tabled. I hope those folks who like to identify as reformers or tea party or whatever are willing to hold those candidates responsible for such action against other Republicans running. Talk about supporting the good ole boy network of playing favorites over empowering voters!
Murray Newman says
Hmm. Doesn’t look like she needed that support.
But nice misleading headline, Dave.
David Jennings says
Murray,
The post title was completely accurate. Not sure what your complaint is.
No, she didn’t need that support but that is probably worthy of a separate post from you so that your anons can go nuts.
Real question: why did Jared support her? 😉

Mr. Jennings
Murray Newman is a complete idiot, and it appears he refuses to report the truth. It makes one wonder how long he has been taking his treatments.
David Jennings says
Tribute,
Murray is not a complete idiot. He is a longtime very successful prosecutor and is now applying his knowledge to help people accused of crimes. I’d hire him if the state were to accuse me of something. Let’s leave it at that, okay?
Murray Newman says
Dave,
You know I’m no fan of Woodfill. It is one of the few things that you and I still agree on.
However, Devon was a natural choice. She’s an outstanding lawyer and former judge. I’ve seen her give speeches at Republican meetings that rallied large crowds. She is more than qualified and she will lead from the front. She will also work as hard on the campaign trail as Mike did.
By the way, in regards to my “anon commenters,” does that mean that “Tribute” is an actual legal name?
David Jennings says
Murray,
I think that you and I think that Jared is the wrong person for the job for different reasons but yes, we do agree on that.
I don’t know Mrs. Anderson. I’ve never seen her rally large crowds of Republicans. I do agree that she is qualified to be the DA, just as I said that her husband was qualified and not only voted for him on the November ballot but urged others to do the same. We will disagree about Mr. Anderson’s hard work on the campaign trail in regards to the November election. For all of Mr. Anderson’s positive attributes, campaigning wasn’t one of them. I think perhaps I will write about Mrs. Anderson’s effect on the ticket in 2014.
Yes, I’ve become somewhat of a hypocrite regarding anonymous commenters.
Dave
Don Hooper says
Dave,
Do you think Murray can use his powers of persuasion with the new Interim DA to investigate why and how a Grand Jury Foreman was able to illegally arrest a prosecutor for refusing to cooperate with a bogus grand jury? Do you think Murray can convince Devon to investigate where all the grand Jury leaks were coming from out of the 185th or who called the reporters when Rachel was taken into custody by a rogue grand jury foreman? Do you think our new interim DA will look at the Chronicle article where Steve Radack says that Chip Lewis called and told him he was going to be subpoenaed by the 185th grand jury? How did Chip know?
