From the InBox:
The Harris County Department of Education (HCDE) Board of Trustees with assistance from the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Executive Search Services has begun work to select a new superintendent for HCDE. As a part of that process, the TASB search consultant would like to meet with various groups to begin developing the qualifications and characteristics of the ideal superintendent for Harris County Department of Education.
To provide residents and employees an opportunity to offer their input, a number of meetings are being scheduled. We would appreciate you joining other members of the community at the place and time shown below in order to record the group’s response to a number of questions regarding the ideal superintendent:

Recall that in the June board meeting, the board accepted Superintendent John Sawyer’s resignation. This meeting is yet another indication of the HCDE Board’s willingness to be completely transparent in their activities. Kudos to each of the board members for this opportunity.

How about the board voting this worthless organization out of existence. It does nothing useful, and is mostly around to line the pockets of the more useless members of the political class and their fellow travelers.

As a former HCDE consultant, I received an invitation to participate in a meeting for the superintendent search. Any school board that uses TASB to lead a superintendent search is not worth a bucket of warm spit in the hottest heat of the hottest desert.

Hi Karla,
Hope all is well.
However, I don’t participate in group therapy sessions with superintendent selection firms or at any such meeting where TASB’s metaphorical cooties could be spread through the air and infect me.
If anyone of that organization wants to visit with me individually, I’ll consider if I can find appropriate environmental gear.
Nothing personal at all. I know you know that, but pass it on…..

Here is an area where Ross and I are in absolute agreement. There is absolutely NOTHING that the HCDE can do that actual school districts can not do on their own. It is a standard rule of thumb that any public educational institution has an administrator/instructor ration that is way, way too high. But the HCDE carries that concept to a logical extreme by being an educational institution without any instructors or students. While I’m sure there are nice people who work there, the actual department is totally devoid of any actual usefulness.
Shoot this bureaucratic dinosaur and put it out of our misery!
