The two candidates are Kevin Mauzy and Stan Stanart. They are competing to replace the current County Clerk, Beverly Kaufman, who is retiring at the end of her current term.
Kevin Mauzy
OVERVIEW OF THE OFFICE:
The County Clerk has a wide variety of duties in serving the residents of Harris County. Aside from being the county’s chief elections officer, which is probably the most visible of the clerk’s duties, the County Clerk files all documents relating to real property, issues marriage licenses, files Assumed Names (also known as business names), federal tax liens, birth and death records, and miscellaneous personal records including hospital liens, animal brands, notices of public meetings of certain governmental bodies, bills of sale, campaign contribution and expenditure reports, and alcoholic beverage permits. The County Clerk also serves as the Clerk of Commissioners Court, the County Civil Courts at Law, and the Probate Courts.
Top Three Issues
- First, I will complete several projects already under way in the office.
- Second, I will initiate several new projects.
- Third, is the area of elections.

Stan Stanart
The Harris County Clerk’s office keeps the County’s records and runs the elections. When you want to get married, you come to the County Clerk’s office to obtain a marriage license. When you buy or sell a home, the records are keep by the County Clerk’s Office. Need to probate a will or need to visit one of our County Civil Courts? Once again, you need the County Clerk Office to find your records and get them to the right court. And finally, when you die, your death certificate is recorded by the County Clerk’s office.
There are a number of other items that the County Clerk is responsible for, such as the record keeper for Commissioner’s Court, but the most important item that the County Clerk must do is run the elections in Harris County. Our democracy depends on fair elections run to the letter of the law.
Top Three Issues:
- Protecting and enhancing the integrity of our elections
- I will be a watch dog for the taxpayer
- I will bring technology to the County Clerk’s office
