Harris County Commissioner Pct 2 Candidates: The Issues in Their Own Words

The two candidates are Jack Morman and Dorothy Olmos. They are competing for the opportunity to run against the current Precinct 2 Commissioner, Sylvia Garcia.

Jack Morman

I am running for Harris County Commissioner, Precinct 2.  The duties of a Commissioner are to participate in all decisions and work of Commissioners Court.  The main functions of the Court are supervision and control of the county courthouses and jails; appointment and employment of county personnel; setting county tax rates; setting a county budget; building and maintaining county roads and bridges; and creating parks and libraries.

Within the individual precincts, each Commissioner is responsible for administration, parks, and road and bridge programs within his or her own precinct.

If elected, my top three priorities are:

1. Striving to reduce taxes;
2. Ensuring our law enforcement personnel have the adequate resources to effectively fight crime;
3. Re-prioritizing spending so that our citizens’ needs are met while eliminating wasteful and unnecessary spending.
