Eleven Virginia Beach city employees and a contractor were killed Friday afternoon by a gunman who then died in a shootout with the police. As of Saturday, four additional victims were hospitalized, three in critical condition and one in fair condition. The shooter used two legally purchased .45 caliber pistols along with extended magazines, each capable of holding 30 rounds.
The shooting left Democratic presidential candidates apoplectic. They called for the passage of ‘common sense’ gun controls before the gun smoke in Virginia Beach had cleared. Here is what the candidates said.
Joe Biden: “11 innocent lives cut down. 11 more futures denied. When will we finally say enough is enough? It’s long past time to hold our leaders accountable. Jill and I are heartbroken that more American families are suffering tonight in Virginia Beach.”
(A typical Biden gaffe. 12 innocent lives were cut down, not eleven!)
Elizabeth Warren: “I’m heartsick and praying for the victims and their loved ones. Eleven people should not have been murdered today. How many lives will it take before Congress acts to end this crisis?”
(Another body count gaffe, this time by Pocahontas.)
Bernie Sanders: “Jane and I are grieving for the victims in Virginia Beach and their families. The days of the NRA controlling Congress and writing our gun laws must end. Congress must listen to the American people and pass gun safety legislation. This sickening gun violence must stop.”
Pete Buttigieg: “Another horrific shooting shocks the nation, this time in Virginia Beach. We grieve with those impacted even as we await more information. Already, this much is clear. It is unacceptable for America to remain the only developed country where this is routine. We must act.”
Kamela Harris: “Heartbroken for the victims and their families of the Virginia Beach shooting and grateful for the first responders on the scene. This senseless act of violence should not be normal. Too many communities have been shattered by gun violence — we cannot continue to stand idly by.”
Beto O’Rourke: “Thinking of the Virginia Beach community, the families forever changed, the lives cut short by gun violence and the inaction in this country to prevent it. I want to work with you to meet this crisis with the urgency it demands and finally end this epidemic.”
Cory Booker: “11 people dead. My heart breaks for those killed in another senseless act of gun violence and the loved ones of the victims whose lives are now shattered. We have the power to stop this—we can and will pass common sense gun safety laws to end these tragedies.”
(What a dumbass! 13 people dead if you count the gunman.)
Kirsten Gillibrand: “I’m heartbroken and furious for the Virginia Beach community, particularly the loved ones of the 11 people murdered today. We can’t keep doing this.”
(12 people were murdered, Kirsten, not eleven.)
Amy Klobuchar: “My thoughts are with the Virginia Beach wounded and the families of those who lost loved ones today. We can’t become numb to these tragedies. We must pass gun safety legislation. The vast majority of Americans agree. We just need to get people in Washington who will represent them.”
Julian Castro: “Heartbreaking news out of Virginia Beach as another community copes with a senseless gun violence attack. We can and must pass common sense reforms to end the gun violence epidemic—and ensure no community has to endure the pain that the Virginia Beach community feels today.”
The talking heads on TV tired their best to draw their guests into calling for strict gun controls in view of Virginia Beach.
And the day before the Virginia Beach shooting, Barach Obama told a VTEX DAY conference in Brazil: “The most difficult day that I’ve had was the day that there was a shooting in a [Sandy Hook] school where 20 small children were shot, Some of you may be aware, our gun laws in the United States don’t make much sense. Anybody can buy any weapon, any time without much, if any, regulation. They buy it over the internet. They can buy machine guns.”
And all this time we’ve been led to believe Obama’s most difficult day that he had was the day he got the horrific news that Hillary had lost to Trump.
Ever since the Columbine school shooting 20 years ago, the Democrats have an apoplectic fit every time there is a ‘mass shooting’ anywhere in the U.S.
But since DeWayne Craddock, the Virginia Beach shooter, had only a single traffic offense on his record, the expanded background checks and ban on assault rifles Obama and the Democrats have been howling for would not have prevented him from purchasing the pistols he used.
The talk about ‘common sense’ and ‘gun safety’ by the Democrats is just a big pile of horseshit. Deep down in their left-wing hearts, what they really want if they could get it, is to disarm all citizens so that only the police and the military could possess firearms. And next, if the Democrats were ever to achieve that, they would then call for the disarmament of the police.
All defenders of the Second Amendment better pray the Democrats do not regain the White House and both chambers of Congress! If they do, it will take the Supreme Court to save the amendment, but even that may not be a sure bet.

If you’re depending on Howie to tell you what Democrats really think and want regarding gun legislation, you might be a Republican…

No worries, I don’t really care all that much what Democrats really think and want regarding gun legislation. Honestly, I don’t believe that Democrats (or at least they ones who are vocal) actually THINK about gun legislation and laws much at all. They have some strong feelings but very few coherent thoughts. I’ve tried on numerous occasions to have a conversation:
Me: So, what law, specifically, would you want to pass to prevent this (latest atrocity) from happening again.
Typical Democrat: Well we should ban assault weapons!
Me: well OK, but that wouldn’t help here since the shooter used a pistol.
Dem: Well, background checks!
Me: he passed a background check
Dem: (very frustrated) well we should just ban guns! They are evil! Nobody needs a gun!
Me: sigh. . . .

8 long years, Barack Obama controlled the legislative agenda in this country. That fraud had every opportunity to turn his WORD into action and to change our gun laws to match his vision of reasonableness.
What happened?
It turns out his WORD was empty and meaningless, and it still is.
The people in Virginia didn’t die because of Barack Obama’s miserable failures, they died because a person with evil intent decided to create the most sinister action imaginable.
Robert says
Given that laws do not stop people from criminal acts, the question should be why do we disarm people making them easy targets for those who would do them harm?

A Civil War would be fought before absolute gun control will be imposed in Texas.
Partner, you can take that to the bank!

I noticed where Barry was talking to a bunch of people in Brazil and he told them that anybody can buy any kind of gun they want in America, including machine guns, on the internet. I wonder if he is such a complete asshole that he really believes that shit?
I know it sounds tacky but there are risks that come with a free society. Law abiding citizens have the CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT to own firearms. Right up until the asshole walked into a public building with a loaded gun he was an honest, law-abiding citizen. He worked there. He wasn’t being fired. He didn’t have a crappy performance report to be pissed about. He just went off. It is a damn shame but more laws are not going to fix it. It is not illegal to go crazy.
I think it is useful to note that people who do this sort of shit tend to go for soft targets, i. e. gun free zones. The presence of guns is NOT the freaking problem. The lack of presence of good guys with guns is the problem. Unless you want to harden EVERY public access building and put trained, armed people with metal detectors at every entrance this crap will continue to happen. Sad but true. You don’t like it, OK. Revoke the Second Amendment. There is a procedure for it. Quit flapping your lips and pissing and moaning and do it (or try to do it, and see how long you last in office).

Very little gun legislation is ever passed by Democrats. They are mostly talk. Republicans in other states like Missouri, Kansas, South Dakota can pass constitutional carry, but Republicans in Texas are kind of scared to do that. I think they are Rinos and not Republicans.
Trey Rusk says
Alex, I would love to see constitutional carry but I don’t think Texans have it so bad. Here is an excerpt from a blog I recently wrote.
All guns with the exception of fully automatic can be purchased over the counter in Texas. All edged weapons, tasers, stun guns, switchblades, stilettos, knuckles and clubs (9-1-2019) can be purchased and carried legally. If you want explosives for the big bangs, you can buy Tannerite by the pound. There are no limits to the amount of ammo a person can purchase or store. There are no limits to the number of rounds in a magazine. Drum magazines are common holding 100 or more rounds which is great for nighttime no limit hog hunts!
“The Gun Control Debate was Settled in 1791.”
Texas Governor, Greg Abbott
Bill Daniels says
Texas needs to join with other free states and sue Trump’s BATF over the bump stock ban. He needs to know there is push back for that. I don’t know if anyone heard his offhand response to a question about silencers….he said, “I don’t like them.” Hey, I don’t like pink hair, but I’m not going to write and E.O. outlawing pink hair.
We’re worried about liberals taking away guns, meanwhile our very own President is doing more to harm us than Obama ever did.
