It is easy to see who the Democratic political establishment is supporting in the runoff for Houston City Council District A: Brenda Stardig. The used to be Republican is raking in the case from engineering firms and…Houston Mayor Annise Parker. Parker’s campaign gave an in-kind contribution in the amount of $2,500 for “communications”. The Parker campaign’s donation was the second highest listed on the latest campaign finance report for Stardig.
The highest? Well, that would be the Houston Council of Engineering Companies PAC in the amount of $10,000 – they know who butters their bread. Scanning through the report, you’ll find mostly lawyers and engineers. Oh, and the occasional Democrat, like say, Rep. Garnett Coleman, who gave the former Republican $1,000. Here, take a look for yourself:
Brenda Stardig 8 day out campaign finance report
Stardig has run the nastiest of nasty campaigns, with anonymous emails disparaging her opponent with everything from “she’s never had a job” to “she supports Obama” to “she supports black ministers” (???) to “she hates gays” to “did you know she’s a member of a strange Catholic church?”. It is terrible to watch someone implode like this – and always amazing to see the depths that an incumbent politician will sink to when they cannot defend their record in a conservative district.
Challenger Helena Brown is not raking in the cash, although she has raised enough to keep her name out there. Her report lists traditional Republican small government supporters such as Norman Adams, Paul Bettencourt, and Harris County Tax Assessor/Collector Don Sumners. Mr. Sumners is always willing to fight the growth in government. Sadly, nowhere on the report do you find Houston City Council member Mike Sullivan, rumored to be challenging Mr. Sumners in the upcoming primary. Too bad. Take a look:

So, District A voters, you have a choice to make. An incumbent that cannot possibly run on her record, so she chooses non-issues and dirty campaign tactics, or a young woman that has no voting record but has a history of supporting conservative candidates and is running a clean campaign.
I know which one I’d choose if I lived in that district.
Update: FULL DISCLOSURE: A few minutes after posting this, and thinking about the campaign that Stardig is running and who her benefactors are, I decided to go to Helena Brown’s website and make a contribution. Frankly, I hope you do to.

I see that Stardig also received $1,000 from liberal Democrat and urbanization advocate Peter Brown and the Stardig campaign paid $7,286 to a liberal San Francisco political/media firm….Peter Brown and the liberals wants to ammend the city building code to allow for the "urbanization" of traditional neighborhood areas like Spring Branch, allowing multiple homes to be built on single family lots.
This is a full-on assault by the Parker-Stardig liberal establishment against Helena Brown and the conservative voters of District A. Helena Brown is endorsed by the Harris County Republican Party Advisory Committee and numerous conservative political and neighborhood leaders. Every conservative vote in District A and every dollar contributed to http://www.HelenaBrown.com matters in this race.
Mainstream says
Helena Brown's campaign is making its fair share of false attacks, not the least of which is a printed mailer with a smear suggesting Stardig is soft on child pornography. What an outrage.
They started with the true fact that the Metro CEO was viewing adult pornography on his private laptop while at the office, and twisted that to a false claim he was viewing child pornography. Obviously, he would be in jail is the latter was true.
TopGun says
Mainstream,
Obviously, you are wrong. Actually having child pornography pictures downloaded onto your personal computer and just simply viewing child pornography on a web site is why George Greanias is not in jail. It still does not negate the fact he was viewing it, as many who visited the sites he visited have acknowledged the presence of underage pictures.
The fact you are attempting to soften this transgression from a City of Houston government official is as sick as the incumbent Councilwoman of District A not having the integrity to demand George Greanias be terminated.
It is strange how all the so-called experience from Civic Club, Super Neighborhood President, Chamber of Commerce, and other various activities the incumbent Councilwoman of District A notes as her professional experience has never developed into having one ounce of professional leadership. Being a lapdog vote for Mayor Parker’s every tax increase does not qualify as leadership.
Helena Brown’s campaign is stating the truth as it has happened in District A. The incumbent of District A has been using Saul Alinsky tactics while hiring major Socialist assets from the West Coast to New York for a little city council seat in Houston.
Helena Brown has the leadership skills Citizens demand, and want, something District A will finally have again.
Helena Brown will bring the missing leadership District A is currently experiencing and the voice at the table the Citizens deserve.
Mainstream says
Top Gun, you claim that "many who visited the sites he visited have acknowledged the presence of underage pictures." Then they need to report those sites to the appropriate law enforcement authorities and have them shut down. The fact that they have not done so, and the sites apparently continue to operate openly indicates to me that they are legal and involve adults.
It is just a mean-spirited smear to equate adult and child pornography.
David Jennings says
Mainstream,
I have not seen the flyer that you mentioned, so I can't comment on that specifically. I'll try to get a copy.
However, as to the charge of viewing child pornography, there is truth and then there is whole truth. It may be "technically true" that Greanias did not view child pornography, I'm still not sold on that but it might be. I visited some of the websites listed by METRO that he visited. At best, the "boys" he viewed are small, effeminate 18 year olds that have removed all body and facial hair so as to appear to be prepubescent 10-14 year old naked boys engaged in various sex acts with older men. At worst, the "boys" are boys. A disclaimer on the sites states that all "models" are of legal adult age.
So regardless of the "technical" legality of it, it is clear beyond reasonable doubt that Mr. Greanias desires to view 10-14 year old prepubescent naked boys engaged in sex acts with older men and tried to fulfill that desire while on the clock and on taxpayer equipment.
He should have been fired on the spot.
Brenda Stardig does not think so and said at the Downtown Pachyderm club that she was okay with the METRO board decision to keep him. Somewhere there is a YouTube of it.
Does this equate to being soft on child porn? Like I said, I haven't seen the document in question so I can't comment on the wording of it but I know that I would be proclaiming loud and clear at every city council meeting that Greanias has to go if I were a council member.

David Jennings says
Mainstream,
I have a copy of the mailer in question. Here is what you said:
Here is the actual text of that mailer:
As I explained above, there is no reasonable doubt as to what Mr.Greanias was desiring to view. I see nothing in that quote from the flyer that is not factual.
TopGun says
Mainstream,
It is obvious you, Mayor Parker, and the incumbent Councilwoman of District A wish to equate adult pornography as acceptable, and child pornography unacceptable, only if you get caught viewing it. Anyone with a functioning brain is readily aware the two are one-in-the-same industry. One is simply run above ground, and the other in the underground.
The fact the incumbent Councilwoman of District A is agreeable with George Greanias, METRO’s CEO, viewing pictures / videos simulating statutory rape of children through her failure to demand his termination only proves she, herself, is completely unfit to hold public office. This fact, the fact she completely ignored the will of the people in District A in her support for the new DRAINAGE FEE TAX, and the fact she hires SOCIALISTS to run her campaign, while claiming to be a Conservative, proves she is a pathological liar, just like Obama.
SOCIALISTS support SOCIALISTS, so the incumbent District A Councilwoman has now proven, through her actions, she, too, is a SOCIALIST.
The Conservative majority of District A do not want a SOCIALIST as their city council representative for District A.

Version 2
The Houston GLBT Political Caucus endorses the incumbent Councilwoman of District A with an endorsement that is not labeled an endorsement, but anyone can see it is an endorsement. This is a thank you to the incumbent for TAXING the citizens of Houston for their member’s needs.
“In Stardig’s two years as a member of Houston City Council, not many GLBT issues have arisen. However, a number of votes have been taken to authorize funding for facilities that provide services to people living with HIV/AIDS (HOPWA funding), including Marjo House, a facility whose funding the Caucus and other GLBT organizations had to fight for in 2010. Stardig stood up against tremendous pressure and supported Marjo House, and has voted in favor of all other HOPWA contracts. She has made a point to engage the community as a representative of GLBT constituents in her district.”

The supposed Conservative incumbent Councilwoman of District A “voted in favor of all other HOPWA contracts”. This means every opportunity that came to her, the incumbent RAISED YOUR TAXES.
I am sure the citizens who had two hundred homes flooded in District A, and could not receive any representation, sure would have appreciated the representation she made a point to give to the Gay community as pointed out in the article, “She has made a point to engage the community as a representative of GLBT constituents in her district”. Why do certain groups get representation, but others do not? Where is the equality to all citizens from the incumbent Councilwoman of District A? Why are certain groups receiving representation, and others treated as useless peasants?
The incumbent Councilwoman of District A has aligned herself with SOCIALISTS (PROGRESSIVE consultants out of NEW YORK), LIARS (Mayor Parker lying to citizens), and groups where you are taxed to support their specific needs, but wants you to believe she is a Conservative.
Help stop the BIASED REPRESENTATION from the present incumbent Councilwoman of District A, and vote for honest leadership where ALL citizens are represented.
VOTE for Helena Brown for Councilwoman District A.
