Finally! Just when Obamacare is kicking in and ordinary citizens are seeing their premiums skyrocket, their working hours cut, their deductibles increased, or losing their policies altogether, we find a bright spot on the horizon:
Dozens of lawmakers and aides are so afraid that their health insurance premiums will skyrocket next year thanks to Obamacare that they are thinking about retiring early or just quitting.
The fear: Government-subsidized premiums will disappear at the end of the year under a provision in the health care law that nudges aides and lawmakers onto the government health care exchanges, which could make their benefits exorbitantly expensive.
Democratic and Republican leaders are taking the issue seriously, but first they need more specifics from the Office of Personnel Management on how the new rule should take effect — a decision that Capitol Hill sources expect by fall, at the latest. The administration has clammed up in advance of a ruling, sources on both sides of the aisle said.
If the issue isn’t resolved, and massive numbers of lawmakers and aides bolt, many on Capitol Hill fear it could lead to a brain drain just as Congress tackles a slew of weighty issues — like fights over the Tax Code and immigration reform.
Thank God! The best thing that could possibly happen to this country is a “brain drain” of the idiots that are overpaid and underworked on Capital Hill. Let ’em get part time jobs at WalMart and see what life is really like in flyover country.
If you read the full article, you’ll note that Republicans are taking this seriously and hope to “fix” it. If a single Republican votes to exempt federal employees from the effects of Obamacare, they need to be run out of town, tarred and feathered, and placed on a stick a the city gates as a warning to other potential traitors.
Obamacare is not constitutional – it’s a tax. A tax that is going to bring the economy to its ankles, since it is already on its knees. Time to pull the plug on the whole stupid idea.
My family and I have used the same family practice clinic for our basic medical needs for more than 20 years. When we’ve needed specialists, we get referrals, but all the specialists (even my ophthalmologist) have coordinated with my family doctor as to treatments and prescriptions, and my wife and I typically get all our prescriptions renewed annually during our annual check-ups/physicals. My wife was told this week during her annual check-up that in preparation for the new rules that will become effective next year, my family doctor will no longer coordinate with the other care providers to renew our prescriptions during the annual check-up. Instead, we will have to have separate appointments for each condition for which we have prescriptions to renew them, in addition to any visits with specialists that may be required and the annual check-up. Boy, that’s going to reduce the cost and efficiency of providing medical care!!!! Thank you so much, Obama and your band of merry idiots, for giving us this new “benefit.”
Well since pre-existing conditions must be covered by Obama’s mandate beginning January 1st, my primary care doc advised that I cancel my soon-to-be unaffordable health insurance and simply pay cash for routine care. I can periodically buy health insurance when the cash for service price is higher than the monthly premium cost.
I wonder when Obama will allow me to buy auto insurance after my son wrecks the car–it seems so wasteful to buy auto insurance for him before that.
Like all things with Congress there is a “rule for you and a rule for me”.
Ill personally write a check for the primary opponent for the first Republican to exempt Congress from this mess.
