Texas Secretary of State proposes changes to elections procedures

The Office of the Texas Secretary of State has proposed new rules, repeal of existing rules and amendments to the Texas Election Code and Texas Administrative Code that could go into effect as early as September 11, 2016.

In the August 12th , 2016 edition of the Texas Register the Office of the Texas Secretary of State, Elections Division proposes to repeal and replace 1 TAC §81.52, concerning the use of precinct ballot counters and eliminating the requirement for a continuous audit log printer to be attached to the precinct ballot counter during the early voting by personal appearance period.

Changes to existing requirements pertaining to the printing of “significant election events”, including their date and time stamps printed to the audit log are also proposed.

Interested persons may submit written comments on the proposed repeal and new rule to the Elections Division, Office of the Texas Secretary of State, P.O. Box 12060, Austin, Texas 78711-2060.
