Why on earth would I support ousting the number two Republican in the US Senate, especially when he also happens to be the Senator from the Great State of Texas? Because Texas needs someone that will lead on conservative issues and understands that if you want to be considered a Texan, it is better to act like one than to spend millions of dollars on television and radio ads telling us that you are one. Besides, exactly how has Texas benefited since our guy has been the number two man?

One man stands out among the candidates trying to oust Sen. John Cornyn. That man is Dwayne Stovall.

You may not have heard of him because he doesn’t have a billionaire in San Francisco giving him hundreds of thousands of dollars to run his own ads. But what he does have is a whole bunch of grassroots supporters and a whole bunch of integrity. Will it be enough to overcome the massive spending of Big John or the free publicity that whacky Steve Stockman is getting? Doesn’t matter. This is a primary and in the primary, I vote for the person that I think is closest to my conservative Republican philosophy and that man is Dwayne Stovall.

I think that Stovall hit the nail on the head with this video.

Yes, McConnell looks like a turtle. But Big John acts like a turtle and that is far worse. He goes up to Washington DC, hides in his shell making votes without explaining them, then sticks his head out around election time, spends a fortune convincing low information voters that he is a Texan, then goes back into his shell after he wins.

What they fought for, in the way of Independence and liberty, is not lost on me. The founding principle of liberty resonates with everyone, regardless of party affiliation or cultural differences.

I am compelled to do this because the Republic, created with the ratification of the Constitution of the United States, no longer exists. The government we were gifted, founded on the principles of federalism, republicanism, and limited government has long since declined into an unlimited National Government based in socialism. I’m a proud Texan that refuses to remain silent while tyranny grows and liberty is destroyed.

Listen to him talk about those beliefs (here and here) and how he thinks they should be applied to the federal government. Then run to the polls and cast your vote for Dwayne Stovall. Is it a long shot? Sure it is. But wouldn’t you rather take a long shot at a prize buck than take a short shot at a turtle?

The best thing to happen to Texas would be to put Big John in a runoff against Dwayne Stovall. For one, it would force Big John to come out of his shell and talk to voters – something he is increasingly reluctant to do. Why does he hate Tea Parties? Because people that attend tea party meetings ask real questions about real issues. Such as Big John’s vote last week to increase the debt ceiling and then hiding away and not telling us why. Another reason it would be good for Texas to get Big John and Dwayne into a runoff is that Big John would remember those classes he took in law school about the constitution and might even start voting like he learned something. But the best reason to vote for Dwayne and force a runoff with Big John is that people would finally take notice of Dwayne and send him to Washington DC to represent us like a Texan should.

Although Texas Sen. John Cornyn is expected by all pundits and observers to have an easy time of it in the 2014 Republican Primary, his polling numbers are very low, so low that seven candidates have filed to run against him. I’ve been watching Dwayne Stovall for the better part of six months, trying to determine if he is a real candidate or one of the many fly by night candidates that enter political races for publicity. It has become clear to me that Stovall is a serious candidate, so I reached out and asked him if he would like to introduce himself to our readers.

I learned an awful lot about him during this interview. One of the things I like  about doing the video interviews is that I can see the body language and facial expressions of the candidates, which shows me where their passion really lies. Watch his body language each time we discuss anything related to the overreach of the federal government and how that harms our freedom.

That was a lot of fun. We did get a bit snarky about my congressman, Steve Stockman, and what his entry into the race means but it was all in fun. The biggest laugh was about the national media declaring that Stockman was the “tea party candidate”. That’s laughable and shows how lazy the media can be. Stockman had no tea party support when his very deceptive campaign was successful in winning CD36. A few libertarian groups is about all he had. He might be able to trick a few north Texas tea party groups into supporting him but that’ll be about it.

I think this race is going to be more interesting than the professionals are predicting. I have been a long time supporter and defender of Sen. Cornyn but I cannot deny that during his time in Washington, the overall condition of the country has spiraled downward. Obviously that isn’t wholly the fault of Sen. Cornyn but the fact is that he has voted, time and time again, for some of the policies that helped to create that downward spiral. And then when he is up for re-election, his votes get closer to what the Republicans of Texas want. It may well be that I vote for him again if I cannot find a better candidate – I understand that in one interview with Dwayne Stovall it is impossible to learn enough about him to vote for him. That said, I can say that it made me want to learn more about him.
