With the exception, of course, pf the whining lobbyists and kindergarten behavior displaying opponents of the Speaker. Nothing will ever make them proud except perhaps, the next vicious, lying campaign they conduct.
Early in this non-race, I used the term “lightweight” to describe Rep. Ken Paxton. Commenter Leif Olson objected to that and wanted to keep the race free of those types of characterizations. And I did.
Turns out that lightweight doesn’t describe Rep. Paxton very well anyways. Terms such as child, crybaby, whiner, shameful, etc., are much more appropriate. After getting what he wanted, the vaunted caucus vote, and losing badly, he is going to continue his “fight” on the floor of the House today. Because nothing says statesman more than not accepting defeat gracefully.
And then there is Michael Quinn Sullivan, a lobbyist employed by an oilman out of Midland. Mr. Sullivan runs the lobby group Empower Texans, which supposedly “fights” for lower taxes. In reality, they “fight” for special interest groups that like making a buck or three off of Texas taxpayers. Shortly after Speaker Straus won the caucus vote, he sent out a congratulatory “Tweet” to the Speaker:
@ for winning GOP caucus vote today.
To which I responded, “This is how you do it folks” because some were already whining and complaining. And then a strange thing happened. Apparently, these people had a strategy session and came up with a new plan because a short while later, I received an email asking “Race Not Over?”. Paul Burka has already posted that email in its entirety here. Well, almost in its entirety. He missed the bottom tag:
Michael Quinn Sullivan <> Andrew Kerr <> Dustin Matocha <> Michele Samuelson |

Those same four people, plus another Empower Texans employee, have been running the campaign of lies against Speaker Straus. Pay particular attention to that last name, Michelle Samuelson. In addition to the fact that her husband is Ken Paxton’s Chief of Staff, browse over to Rep. Paxton’s campaign finance report for this non-race and what do you find?
That she is also a paid employee of Ken Paxton. Amounts are not listed on these reports but check it out, her name is listed on Form SPK, Schedule C, two entries for wages directly above two entries for wages for her husband.
Grassroots my arse.
But maybe the most despicable thing was done on Sen. 20 Gallon Stetson Patrick’s KSEV radio station by the Taxman, Paul “Quittencourt” Bettencourt and former State GOP Chair Cathie Adams. Rather than accept defeat gracefully, they proceeded to trash Republicans and dismiss the caucus vote that Sen. 20 Gallon had begged to have. All the while hyping a potential mayoral run for Quittencourt. Disgusting. Recall that current State GOP Chair Steve Munisteri replaced Quittencourt as Treasurer so that he could get the party’s finances in order.
Cathie Adams proceeded to tell the world that the caucus vote had been unfair because Straus’ “lieutenants” had “intimidated” the rest of the reps into standing up for Straus and that the only brave men in the room were those that voted for Paxton. Cathie Adams is an idiot.
If she had ever met some of these Representatives, she would know that no “lieutenant” was going to intimidate them. Rep. Sarah Davis survived cancer and literally met death at its door – do you seriously think she is going to be intimidated? Can you imagine my own rep, Rep. John Davis, being intimidated by anyone? If so, you’ve never met John. And I could go on and on like this.
Intimidation my arse.
What we have here is a bunch of people that never learned in kindergarten that the toys in the classroom toy box really don’t belong to them. Or, as demonstrated yesterday by a handful of 60 and 70 year olds chanting in the corridors of the capital, a group of people that missed out on the protests of the ’60’s and want to make up for lost time.
Kudos to the 70 Republicans for putting these people in their place yesterday. These are the grownups that are going to work with Texas Democrats to keep Texas as the leader of this nation.
And for the whiners and ’60’s rejects, my they find the dung heap of irrelevance to which they belong.
