Sen. Mike Jackson receives Taxpayer Advocate award

Sen. Mike Jackson (R-11) was the guest speaker at last night’s monthly meeting of the San Jacinto Republican Women. He gave an overview of how he thought the recently ended legislative session went, including use of the Rainy Day Fund, the huge portion of the budget devoted to Health and Human Services, passing the Voter ID law, and being elected by his peers to be the president pro tempore.

He also noted that he was proud of the Texas education system and the product it produces, a stance rarely taken in public. Too bad more politicians don’t come out in support of the outcome of our educational system; perhaps if they did people would take the time to learn that it is a good system producing some very bright students.

One of the bright products of that system, Andrew Kerr, Executive Director of Empower Texans, was on hand last night to present Sen. Jackson with the Texans for Fiscal Responsibility Taxpayer Advocate award. The award is based upon their version of a “scorecard”, which you can see by clicking here.

Keith Nielson of TK Media produced a video of Sen. Jackson talking about the award and endorsing Richard Risinger, who is running for judge of the 61st Civil Court.

You can tell it is getting close to the political season because a lot of judicial candidates were on hand asking people to sign their ballot petitions. I was happy to see my friend Leif Olson out and about gathering signatures. Leif is running for the 151st Civil Court, trying to unseat an Obama wave winner. He is a rock solid conservative and Harris County will benefit with him on the bench.

Also on hand was my friend Daniel McCool, who is running for Sen. Jackson’s current Senate District 11 seat, assuming Sen. Jackson files for the new U.S. House District 36 as predicted. Rep. Randy Weber (R-29), who is running for Ron Paul’s seat in district 14, was there, along with JP Holly Williamson, Harris County Sheriff candidate Harold Hueszel, judicial candidate Michael West, and judicial candidate Michael Landrum.

Many thanks to the SJRW, especially for the cookies baked by Jackie Welch. 😉
