Man, o’ man, this ticks me off!
We have some unsolicited advice for Texas state Sen. Dan Patrick: If you’re going to brag about passing a bill while trying to pander to right-wing voters, it’s probably a good idea to have, well, actually passed that bill.
This afternoon Sen. Patrick’s Twitter and Facebook accounts have touted the passage of SB 41, dubbed the “CSCOPE Termination Bill.” The posts direct readers to an online petition:
“As your Senate Chairman on the Committee on Education, we passed a bill I authored called SB41, bringing an end to the flawed and controversial CSCOPE curriculum. Now there are school officials and legislators who want to go against the will of the people, calling into question the state’s mandate to bring this curriculum to an end. Let them know you want to put and [sic] end to CSCOPE by signing the petition.”
Problem: Sen. Patrick filed SB 41 just two days ago (July 24). Not only hasn’t the Legislature passed the bill, it can’t even take it up because Gov. Perry hasn’t put this issue on the call for the special legislative session.
I can’t believe I missed it and a left wing group gets the glory. Dang-burn-it, that’ll teach me to get busy. I knew this was going to be an error-filled campaign when Dannie picked Allen Blakemore to be his general consultant. I mean, picking Blakemore to run a statewide campaign is like grabbing a kindergartner, putting him in front of a Rice University calculus class, and expecting miracles. Tain’t nothing good gonna come of it.
Hey, TFN, Dannie is MINE! I’ll pick on him and his crack consultant, you guys find someone else to pick on. I mean, I try to live by the motto of not letting anyone steal my joy but it was HARD to follow that motto when I saw your post. Heck, email me next time and let me have the fun!
Maybe I should start a contest. What is the over/under for mistakes made by that crack consultant during Dannie’s campaign?

Dan Patrick’s ego long ago surpassed his height.

I'd like to point out a couple of things here.
1) Not everything in CSCOPE is bad. Indeed, much of it is useful if used with discernment.
2) Given that we taxpayers paid for this, why should it be banned from use because of a relative handful of bad activities? Remember — it is a multi-subject curriculum that runs from elementary school through graduation.
I teach in a district that developed its own curriculum rather than buying CSCOPE because it required purchasing the entire program and forbade anyone not on the district payroll from seeing the materials. Why shouldn't I be able to pick and choose from the good stuff that anyone but the most blind critic has to concede exists and which my tax dollars paid to develop?

Some of the CSCOPE stuff is useful… but it WAS mostly a waste of money… We have access to it, but aren't required to use it

Now now, there plenty of Dannie’s silliness to go around, and no reason for you and the Texas Freedom Network not to share it together, in peace and harmony. 😉

Gosh, I must have amnesia, I got all of these press releases that Mr. Danny (Goeb) Patrick had single handily killed the SCSOPE program back in May. I also remember getting emails from Donna Garner and several others proclaiming that Danny was just grandstanding and it was really a “Mark Twain” death and that CSCOPE was actually alive and well….what I don’t get is if you really killed it in the regular session, why are you killing it again? …..uh maybe that “Mark Twain” announcement was just that…..”the events of my death have been greatly exaggerated…..” Perhaps we should also examine the polling data in Harris County on Danny’s standing also as it’s rumored that he only polled SD7 and just left out the other 6 SDs?
