Psst…Hey, Jack Morman, you are on the wrong track.

axiom

1. a self-evident truth that requires no proof.

2. a universally accepted principle or rule.

That was for those of you who, like me, went through the Pasadena school system for our learnin'.

This is for Precinct 2 County Commissioner Jack Morman:

If, on an issue involving ethics, you side with El Franco Lee, Jerry Eversole, and partisan hack Vince Ryan against County Judge Ed Emmett, you are wrong.

That, niños y niñas, is an axiom.

Truth, as it were.

Unfortunately, my friend (even if he no longer responds to my inquiries) Jack Morman did side with his fellow commissioners Lee and Eversole and hack Ryan against Judge Emmett on an ethics issue.

Bad news, dude.

Those of us in Precinct 2 were thrilled when Jack won a long shot race against Sylvia Garcia in the anti-Obama election of 2010. But we weren't thrilled because Ms. Garcia was a crook and needed to be ousted. On the contrary, from all indications, she was on the side of good ethics and reform – go back and review her record if you wish, I did. We simply wanted different priorities in the office when it came to spending and allocation of resources.

Whoa.

Were we misguided?

Don't think so (yet), but this vote is very, very bad. In case you don't know what I'm talking about, read these two articles by the Houston Chronicle's Mike Morris:

Mai Tais and minibars on your dime – Uncovering Harris County's losses took a whistleblower and two audits

Ethics issue raised in law firm's hiring – Harris County judge questions attorneys' role in bond sales now being probed

Yeah, I'm going to make you read instead of quoting the entire articles like others do. Get over it. This is relevant though and is taken from the second link:

While traveling to New York to visit his son, Emmett said he passed Harrison, Jones and their wives in first class as he walked to coach with his wife.

"Does it make any difference that it was first class or coach?" Commissioner El Franco Lee interrupted. "You're that interested in what class a person would fly?"

Emmett shot back, "If they're flying on a county trip, yes sir, I am."

So Jack, what could your reasons be for supporting the ethically challenged? Hmm. Here are a few:

  1. Bargaining over redistricting – you want an easier district. Seriously? Don't let that be your legacy.
  2. Payoffs. Dude. I know you and your family better than that. Next.
  3. Trying to get along with the Second Baptist West Side crowd that controls Republican primaries in Harris County. Same as number 1 but you also need to consider that the East/South side is growing in prominence and is not going to lay down for those folks much longer. This one works for Radack, who jumped the Emmett ship a while back, but not for you.
  4. You researched it and think this law firm is the best for the job. Sorry, but no. See the axiom above.

If I had to guess, #3 would be my pick for why you did this nonsensical move. Nonsensical because this scandal is going to grow. Guaranteed. And the influence of the Second Baptist crowd is diminishing in HCRP politics, that is a fact, just look at the voting patterns per precinct that I outlined in the early voting period last year.

Rethink this one Jack.

Quickly, before you get too tied into these clowns. Join Judge Emmett in his quest to clean up Harris County politics.

Remember:

If, on an issue involving ethics, you side with El Franco Lee, Jerry Eversole, and partisan hack Vince Ryan against County Judge Ed Emmett, you are wrong.
