There is a reason that the mainstream media is viewed even more negatively than politicians. Their obsession with attacking a President that they did not support leads to hyperventilating, misleading and false reporting, and alarmist overreaction.

I think that you will agree with me that neither the NY Times or the National Review are cheerleaders for President Trump. There are certainly other publications and articles out there that are informative without being misleading but they are few and far between.
Fact: there is no ‘Muslim ban’
Unfortunately, you would not know that if you lived in Houston, Texas and depended upon the largest newspaper in the market to give you the unvarnished truth, either in their ‘news’ reporting or in their editorials. As you can see in the graphic below, the official Houston Chronicle twitter account promoted a story about a ‘Muslim ban’ and protests in Houston:
And then today in a hyperbolic, hyperventilating editorial titled Resist Now! the Houston Chronicle editorial board actually stated this:
She (Lady Liberty) has held high her beacon of light, hope and new beginnings since 1886.
And now, her light has been extinguished, the ideals engraved on her pedestal defaced into mockingly ironic graffiti.

Not to be alarmist? Your news department pushed a misleading narrative (lie?) to the public and your editorial board screeched a bunch of nonsense about the light of liberty being extinguished in the U.S. and then you say you aren’t being an alarmist? Goodness.
Perhaps the editors and reporters at the Houston Chronicle should have asked their friends at CNN about the non-existent ‘Muslim ban’.

No defense for the incompetence of the implementation
No serious person can defend the rollout of this temporary immigration delay. The people with green cards or other already approved legal status to enter the U.S. that were caught up in the delay while in flight or had to change their plans while on vacation were inconvenienced, there is no question about it. Some of them are still inconvenienced and that needs to be corrected with all due haste. Hopefully the Trump administration will learn from their mistakes and move forward with more planning and caution in the future.
Very little mainstream media focus on gains made with Saudi Arabia
While the Houston Chronicle and the others in the mainstream media hyperventilate over something that has very little effect on refugees, they have told their readers very little about President Trump’s talks with Saudi Arabia on Saturday.

Saudi Arabia’s King Salman, in a telephone call on Sunday with U.S. President Donald Trump, agreed to support safe zones in Syria and Yemen, a White House statement said.
Trump, during his presidential campaign last year, had called for Gulf states to pay for establishing safe zones to protect Syrian refugees.
“The president requested, and the King agreed, to support safe zones in Syria and Yemen, as well as supporting other ideas to help the many refugees who are displaced by the ongoing conflicts,” the statement said.
This is great news for anyone that wants actually help the refugees and not use them as fodder for a political attack. Where is the Houston Chronicle editorial praising this?

“I commend President Trump for delivering on his campaign pledge to put a common-sense pause on a broken refugee program and immigration system that has serious national security gaps and is in desperate need of repair.
“By temporarily restricting entry into the United States from several nations that were established as terrorist hotspots by the Obama Administration, President Trump is doing exactly what he promised the American people he would do – and that’s put their safety, security and well-being first.

I think that Rep. Babin is onto something here. Do we want to help the refugees or do we want to use them to attack a political opponent? Which is more humane to the refugees? Bringing a thousand of them to the U.S. after months or years of ‘vetting’ while they sit in squalid, terrifying conditions? Or resettling hundreds of thousands of them in a safe environment close to their homeland?
Obviously the reporters and editors at the Houston Chronicle and other mainstream media organizations have chosen to use them to attack a political opponent. The irony of all of this is that the conditions that the refugees are fleeing from were created and fostered by the very politicians the media supported. In case you have forgotten, Hillary Clinton was Secretary of State and each and every one of the hotspots in the Middle East got hotter under her ‘leadership’. And then almost every single one of these media organizations supported one of the most corrupt and incompetent politicians in modern history for President. So spare me your ‘not to be an alarmist’ nonsense.
Action speaks louder than nonsensical protesting
As for those of you that insist on running around, breaking windows, blocking streets, setting cars on fire, and preventing others from free speech, if you want to help the refugees, contact one of these organizations and help them:
- Migrant Offshore Aid Station
- Karam Foundation
- Interfaith Ministries of Greater Houston
- White Helmets
- Doctors Without Borders
- Medical Team International
- Shelterbox
Contacting those groups will allow you to help refugees in the short term. For a long term fix, you are going to have to stop voting for politicians that favor slogans over substance, be they Republicans or Democrats.
And stop hyperventilating and spreading false information. It does nothing whatsoever to help a single refugee. But following these words will:

Ali walks up to the desk and says he’s been persecuted because of his religion. If he’s a Christian, he gets special consideration. If he’s a Shi’ite Muslim being persecuted by Sunni Muslims (the rough equivalent of a Protestant being persecuted by Catholics), he has no chance.

See? No question about religion, race, gender, etc.

The devil is in the details, all that the Times did was to print the executive order. Did you stop to wonder why there is so much confusion, could it be the details (Or lack thereof) in the document.

As for the Executive Order, I believe that a number of people have already stated that while it was a good idea, it was very poorly implemented. You know, like the Obama care website.
As for who it bans, it bans travelers from countries where it is difficult to investigate the background of people, countries where there is difficulty actually establishing a credible ID and countries that are actively supporting terrorism as a state activity. Should it have been a wider ban? Possibly, Is that what you’re complaining about?
As for whether it would have stopped events in the past, it’s a question that is “neither here nor there” since you don’t have a time machine in your hip pocket.

Great post. However, in your section “Action speaks louder than nonsensical protesting,” you forgot to mention “screaming cheers that became old during junior high school.”
That is to say that most of the “protests” seem more like left-leaning pep rallies than a thoughtful presentation meant to push us toward their cause. Certainly you have heard several news reports that had chants like this in the background: “Hey, hey, ho, ho, blah-ta-blah has got to go.”
You would think that the left might grow up a bit and start presenting a cogent argument.
Now that I think of it, maybe you did cover these nonsensical chants by your notice of how the protesters were “preventing others from free speech.”
