Off the Kuff, musings, and Greg’s Opinion are trying to get traction on the fact that Ms. Holm’s campaign finance report from 10-26 did not have a huge television buy listed. And they just know there had to be one of at least $100,000. Turns out there was an error on the report, which was corrected and filed on 10-28 at 2:06:11 PM and was available on the campaign finance website at 4:11:24 PM the same day. The corrected report listed a payment of $25,000 to Bethel Nathan Communications for purchased TV time. Of course, none of them have updated their charges to reflect that because, well, you know.
The thing is, the correction did not affect the amount of cash on hand. These guys seem to be upset because the “public” has a right to know how the candidates are spending their money. I suppose that is true but does the public really care that the other candidates used most of their resources on television and Mrs. Holm didn’t? No, I don’t think so. But certainly the political junkie types care. The fact that they missed the call by such a large amount could be why they haven’t updated it.
At any rate, here is how the candidate’s funds stack up eight days out.
Contributions | Expenditures | Cash on Hand | |
Green | $43,025 | $46,847 | $38,378 |
Holm | $86,573 | $193,239 | $131,959 |
Khan | $91,551 | $384,704 | $31,477 |
Although it looks like Mrs. Holm is well ahead of the field in cash on hand, remember that Mr. Khan has prepaid for his media blitz. Mrs. Holm’s campaign took the more conservative route of waiting to see where their resources could be used most effectively. And Mr. Green, well, I’m sure he’s busy with the I.R.S.
So, lefty bloggers aside, Pam Holm is still the best choice for conservatives in this political position. If it were a clerk’s position, maybe Mr. Khan would be the choice because Pam has way too much energy for that. But this is a position that requires someone willing to stand up to the mayor and tell the voters the truth. And certainly, the best for that job is Pam.
