The residents are not the only beneficiaries of the deal, which appears to be a winning proposition all the way around.
Winning proposition all the way around? Right. Let’s do the math. The center has to divert $6 million dollars from providing much needed care. The city gets $6 million dollars so that Bill White can purchase more commemorative plaques to give to such deserving people as James Prince, who, BTW, just had a restraining order issued against him.
Houston residents benefit by the continued availability of residential and other programs for this group of citizens in a central location. Those benefits had been jeopardized by rising property values in the area and the city’s decision not to honor the center’s 99-year lease.
I do hope voters will remember Mayor White’s decision “not to honor” a group providing much needed services to helpless people.
