MIKE KNOX ANNOUNCES CAMPAIGNFOR HOUSTON CITY COUNCIL, DISTRICT A22-year Spring Branch Resident, 15-year HPD Officer, Small Businessman, Husband of 36 Years & Father
HOUSTON – Mike Knox, a 22-year Spring Branch resident, is launching his campaign for Houston City Council, District A.
Knox, a veteran police officer having served Houston Police Department (HPD) for 15 years, played a key role in establishing the Westside Divisional Gang Unit for HPD and the Westside Gang Task Force, which became the catalyst to the formation of the Texas Gang Investigators Association.
After serving HPD, Mike took his experience and knowledge of gangs to schools and communities throughout the United States and Canada, bringing solutions and educating teachers, students, and community leaders about gang culture. He has consulted with state and local officials regarding public policy, state law and city ordinances related to gang and youth violence. His book “Gangsta in the House: Understanding Gang Culture” won the 2001 National Gang Crime Research Center Thrasher Award.
An active member of the District A area, Mike serves as president of his homeowners’ association and is a Republican precinct chair. He assisted the Spring Branch Management District in its early implementation years, served as a Board Member for the Spring Branch Education Foundation and coached his son’s little league baseball games.
Knox is running for City Council to give back to the community that has given so much to him, to be an advocate for the community, to help District A gain back its former influence at City Hall and be a partner to residents who want to achieve a better quality of life where they live.
“I would like the voters of District A to know that I believe less government is better government. I’m going to lead with conservative values and work to have a safer District A for us all to live in. I will always put District A interests above my own. It would be my honor to serve my neighbors as their Council District Representative on City Council and I would ask for your vote and your support,” said Knox.
Knox will host his campaign kick-off on Tuesday, February 26 at his home, 1433 Freedonia from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
“My wife, Helen, and I want to open our home to launch this campaign because this is about neighborhoods. Our neighbors, the residents of District A, have legitimate concerns about infrastructure and safety on our streets, just like us. We invite our District A neighbors to join us, to bring their concerns and questions early in this campaign. I look forward to discussing important issues facing our area with my District A neighbors,” Knox said.
Mike Knox, a native Houstonian, settled in Spring Branch during his career with HPD, after his service in the United States Air Force. Mike and Helen have been married for 36 years and have one son, Jason, who is a new addition to the Houston Police Department. Jason and his wife Keira are also Spring Branch residents.

Obviously, incumbent Helena Brown is in trouble. Knox joins former District A member Brenda Stardig and Sen. Dan Patrick staffer Amy Peck in this race.
Alexander I Shaskevich says
Mike Knox is a jerk. When Helena Brown was running against Brenda Stardig, he wrote a very nasty e-mail saying her experience was of a low level clerk. Didn’t make a difference, Helena won. Mike Knox has only 1 years experience as a Precinct Chairman, and he has the gall to want to be in city council? Don’t need another former cop on city council. By the way Helena has been a fighter for all the conservative causes on a city wide basis. Helena grew up in District A and spent 16 years as a precinct chair. Mr. Knox cannot match that.
