You won’t find this statement on the HFR&R Fund website any longer. Good thing I got a screen grab.
On January 17th, Bradley Olsen of the Houston Chronicle wrote a follow up piece describing an Office of Inspector General investigation into comments made by Jolanda Jones towards the Houston firefighters; in preparation to a “showdown” over pension benefits.
And now the Houston Chronicle is reporting a “skirmish” with firefighters over how their pension benefits are determined, a change the Chronicle writes the Houston firefighters have resisted.
Knowing Houston property owner voters would rebel over increasing property taxes to pay for the pension commitments and over 63{997ab4c1e65fa660c64e6dfea23d436a73c89d6254ad3ae72f887cf583448986} of the police and firefighters don’t even live in the city to be eligible to vote in City Council or Mayoral elections, Mayor Parker and Jolanda Jones are partnering with the HOPE employees to go to the mattresses with the Houston firefighters and absorb the Houston firefighter’s pension plan into the Houston Municipal Employee Pension System plan.
No more meetings, no more discussions.
