This is going to be a busy week for those of us in Houston and Harris County that enjoy politics. If 10,000 people can stand in 100 degree heat to worship a mediocre basketball player, surely these events can get a few people to sit in air-conditioning to learn about stuff that affects their lives. But I wouldn’t hold my breath on that.
Monday, July 15th
7:00 AM “NO AMNESTY-IMPEACH OBAMA (Overpasses for Obama’s Impeachment)” – A rally to sync with the MARCH FOR JOBS in DC to address an impending amnesty for 30 million foreign job seekers to compete with America’s struggling working-class.Bring your No Amnesty signs & Impeach Obama spirit signs & join us July 15. Depending on participation in a roll call we will offer more overpass sites. At this time we will start with the TC Jester footpath bridge over I-10.
10:30 AM Meet Greg Abbott – Houston – Attorney General Abbott’s gubernatorial campaign visits Houston.
6:00 PM San Jacinto Republican Women – Harris County Republican Party Chair Jared Woodfill will be the featured speaker.
Tuesday, July 16th
12:00 NOON Greater Houston Pachyderm Club – Dr. Jiajie Zhang, new dean of The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) School of Biomedical Informatics (SBMI).
1:00 PM Harris County Department of Education Board Meeting – Incredibly, after the bad publicity they suffered earlier this year for paying lobbyists, Agenda Item 7.E.5 proposes paying $82,000 for another lobbyist.
6:30 PM Clear Lake Area Republicans – Empower Texans’ Dustin Matocha will talk about their “fiscal responsibility index”.
Wednesday, July 17th
6:30 PM TOM PAUKEN, Texas Governor candidate SAYS HE AIMS TO RETURN TO “TRUE” CONSERVATISM – Although Greg Abbott will almost certainly be the RPT nominee and next Governor of Texas, we will be doing a disservice to the party, the state, and Abbott if we give him a free ride.
Thursday, July 18th
12:00 NOON Downtown Houston Pachyderm Club – Lt. Governor David Dewhurst will be the guest speaker. Dewhurst should be in a good mood after guiding the abortion bill through the Senate last week. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a protest from “orange shirts” at this one.
6:30 PM Lone Star Republicans – This is a new group on the East side. If you live in the Channelview, Galena Park, Highlands, Crosby area, check it out.
Saturday, July 20th
8:30 AM – The Latino Vote, Beyond the Rhetoric – This is a workshop put on by the Hispanic Republican Citizens in Action for “engaging, approaching, and relating to cultural differences that will have a tremendous effect in the RPT, Harris County GOP, and inner City of Houston.” Click here for a flyer to the event.
