Next Friday evening, January 17th, the Libertarian Party, Liberty on the Rocks, and the Republican Liberty Caucus will host a “Liberty Forum” at the headquarters of the King Street Patriots.
The RLC and Houston Liberty On The Rocks are proud to welcome Ben Swann, liberty minded journalist known for bringing truth to reporting over main stream corporate news outlets most Americans watch. Swann is an award-winning journalist and former news-anchor for FOX19 WXIX in Cincinnati, KFOX-TV in El Paso and NBC affiliate KTSM-TV in El Paso. Swann is also well-known for his fact checking series Reality Check.
This event will provide much needed discussion and dialogue among people who want to promote liberty or garner the liberty vote. Notably, Steve Munisteri, current Texas GOP Chairman, agreed to speak, as well as Gary Johnson, former Republican Governor of New Mexico and Libertarian Candidate for President, and Judge Jim Gray. And, to make it even more entertaining, both candidates for Harris County GOP Chair, Jared Woodfill and Paul Simpson, agreed to discuss their views on stage in a debate-like forum. Rep. James White TX HD 19 will start off the forum with a discussion on Liberty Conservatism in East Texas. Further, Dwayne Stovall, Republican candidate for US Senate, Debra Median, Republican candidate for Texas Comptroller, Kathie Glass, Libertarian candidate Texas Governor, Terry Holcomb-Republican Candidate for TX State Representative HD 18, and Brandon De Hoyas, Libertarian candidate for Texas Lt. Governor will speak.

The debate between Harris County Republican Chair Jared Woodfill and Paul Simpson will be interesting to watch. Woodfill will most likely feel like he is in “enemy territory”, especially after the recent remarks about him by Harris County Commissioners Court Judge Ed Emmett. But from past experience, I can guarantee you that he will not back down from his belief that social conservatives must have a place at the table in the HCRP. Will Simpson follow Emmett’s lead and suggest that social issues be removed from the Republican arena? I doubt that but the dynamics of the room might play into his answers. Neither man believes in legalizing marijuana for recreational purposes but what will they say about medicinal purposes? What role will the moderator, Ben Swann, play and will he accept answers that do not directly address his questions? If you are interested in the future of the HCRP, you should think seriously about going to the forum and watching this debate.
