1. Who are you and what are you running for?
I am Roy L. Moore and I am running for the 245th Family District Court of Harris County.
2. What kind of cases does this court hear?
The 245th is one of the nine Family District Courts that hear divorce, paternity, child custody, visitation, child support, property divisions, name changes and Child Protective Service matters.
3. Why are you running for this particular bench?
I want to continue with the work that I did as a practicing family lawyer and that I have done while the Associate Judge of this bench. Everyone deserves to be treated in a respectful, responsible and responsive manner, always taking into consideration the best interest of children.
4. What are your qualifications for this job?
I zealously represented men, women and children in family law matters for more than 17 years before accepting the appointment of Associate Judge of the 245th Family District Court in March of 2007. I am Board Certified in Family Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. I have consistently throughout my career sought to improve my skills and knowledge through Continuing Legal Education greatly in excess of the requirements of the State Bar of Texas. As an Adjunct Professor at South Texas College of Law, I am committed to teaching future lawyers who will practice family law. The bottom line is that experience matters and the combination of my representation of clients, continuing my legal education, and my time on the bench making the tough decisions presented to me everyday makes me uniquely qualified for the bench.
5. Why is this race important?
This race is important because the men, women and children of Harris County deserve, no require, a judge who will provide them with competent, consistent and compassionate justice in a timely and efficient manner. Family courts have the ability to take people’s money, homes, children and liberty; therefore, it is imperative that the person who wins this race has the knowledge, experience, devotion and desire to meet the needs and requirements of those who appear in the 245th Family Court.
6. Why should people vote for you in November?
Experience matters. Real world experience representing clients before our Courts in Harris and its surrounding counties for seventeen plus years compounded by three plus years of sitting on the bench in this Court making the difficult and life changing decisions for those men, women and children who have appeared in the 245th Family Court. Those decisions have been based upon my experience as a practicing attorney, as a adjunct professor at one of our local law schools, my presentations and speeches to my peers and our community, being a husband and father and my devotion to excel at my job. A juror in a trial that I presided over gave me the ultimate compliment when asked what were his thoughts of the Judge. He wrote “he made me want to be better at my job.” It is my goal, it is my pledge.
