Jim Leitner. Husband. Father. Grandfather. Board Certified Lawyer. Public servant. Former prosecutor. Servant leader. Church leader. Pro-life Christian.
Jim, a Native Houstonian, entered the Coast Guard at the age of seventeen. He served our country during the Gulf War and retired as a Commander.
A graduate of the University of Houston Law Center, Jim has practiced law for forty years. For years, Jim was the go to attorney for difficult cases in Harris County. He represented some of the county’s worst offenders with integrity and intellect. Jim has handled over 300 jury trials and 300 appeals. He has served as First Assistant or second in command, in Bell, Harris, and Lampasas Counties. Jim is the recipient of the Mexican American Bar Association endorsement.
In November 2008, Pat Lykos won the race for Harris County District Attorney. This was a few short months after Chuck Rosenthal resigned in disgrace after admitting to sitting at the helm of the District Attorney’s Office while impaired.
During the last two months of 2008, Pat Lykos named Jim Leitner as her First Assistant and they worked to create a meaningful District Attorney’s Office that would be important and different than prosecution as usual. When people needed to be fired to keep the integrity of the office, Jim made that happen. Looking at the DA’s Office under the Andersons, you will see folks that have been charged with and convicted of crimes, liberal cronies, Planned Parenthood advocates, and disgraced prosecutors fired or demoted by Jim Leitner in 2008.
November 2008 also brought defeat to Devon Anderson as she lost reelection to the 177th District Court. The Lykos administration did not think that Anderson was a good fit for the office – a pro-choice, pro-Planned Parenthood liberal “Republican.”
When Devon ran for District Attorney in 2014, she did not have my support. I wasn’t alone. Many Republicans who knew about the unlawful use of Susan Brown’s grand jury refused to support the Andersons. This included Jim Leitner.
When Jim entered the race for Harris County Attorney, Devon was livid. She may be concerned that a Leitner administration could expose more wrongdoing in Anderson’s DA’s Office. She told Harris County Republican leadership that she was upset with Jim for supporting her opponent.
The last few weeks have exposed and clarified the concerns that many folks had about Devon Anderson and her DA’s Office – poor decision making, inexperienced prosecutors, low morale, corruption, and bad judgment. Jim Leitner had the foresight and courage of conviction to express his opinion that Devon Anderson was bad for Harris County. I bet you wish you had listened two years ago.
Many of the same problems such as inefficiency, poor morale, incompetence, politicization, and bad judgment exist at the County Attorney’s Office. Think Dave Wilson. The current County Attorney has turned that office into a zoo and Jim’s proven leadership is needed to right this ship. It will take an experienced attorney with a clear vision for the office to lead the County Attorney’s Office and Jim is just the man to do it.
Now, you have an opportunity to make the right decision for our community – Jim Leitner for County Attorney. There has never been a more qualified candidate with an outstanding military career and an impeccable legal career.

Chris Carmine is a formidable candidate with the energy, determination, and skills to bring a Conservative outlook and organization to a much higher level. As technology expands, the County Attorney’s office will require the will and expertise to meet and exploit the new demands of complicated civil legal world. He brings the respect of the young and older alike. From my handheld device.

Carmona….Chris Carmona. My phone now has the spelling right.
Don Hooper says
Jack, dude give it up?
Mick says
Carmona has always wanted to be county attorney . . . except when he ran for state rep and, oh yeah, when he ran for Houston City Council. Kinda seems like maybe he just wants an elected office. From which government teat does Carmona wish to suckle?
Jack O'Connor says
Chris Carmona will make an outstanding County Attorney. While both Republican candidates vying for this office are decent and skilled people, Chris brings a fresh vision of a competent and well managed office of the County Attorney. His performance as well as his understanding of the position during the political forums I have seen gives him an edge. May the best man win !

I don’t know Mr. Hooper. Didn’t Leitner also work for democrat Adrian Garcia?
Don Hooper says
Kevin,
Yes he did because even Adrian Garcia did not want Vince representing him as the County Attorney. Jim was the general counsel for the Sheriff’s department and a very good one. It was one of Adrian’s smarter moves and Jim’s expertise helped out a lot.

Hooper, after reading this article I want to support Jim Leitner but he is running against my friend.
